    Job Summary:

    The Senior Director, Community Investment and Economic Mobility will be the lead on United Way’s Bridging the Racial Wealth Gap strategy which aims to increase BIPOC homeownership and business ownership in the Puget Sound region.

    The Senior Director, Community Investment and Economic Mobility provides strategic vision and leadership regarding United Way’s BIPOC asset building loan and grant funding strategies and leads community engagement with key ecosystem partners in our endeavors to work side by side with community to ensure an equitable future for everyone.

    The position has two primary areas of leadership: 1) Serving as the primary liaison between United Way King County and our community lending partners and 2) Developing relationships and thought partnership with key eco-system partners working in the BIPOC asset building and economic mobility space. 3) Working alongside the Sr. Director of Equitable Philanthropy to support grantmaking to key ecosystem partners as part of the 5 year Bridging the Wealth Gap Campaign.

    The position is part of the CST leadership team and has an important collaborative, cross-team leadership role, stewarding, advising, and participating in efforts for which they might not be directly responsible. The role utilizes the support of internal United Way of King County resources and external community resources, and the position maintains mutually beneficial relationships with community organizations, philanthropy, board volunteers, and other partners.

    Compensation:.

    • The pay range for this job is $118,750 - $125,000.

    Essential Duties:

    • Directs the programmatic work of United Way’s BIPOC asset-building strategies and the successful accomplishment of organizational objectives including:
    • Program Management:
    • Working with Campaign lead and committee on implementing internal program launch timeline.
    • Mapping out both internal and external stakeholder involvement in program (i.e. UWKC finance, operations and external ecosystem partners.).
    • Coordinating with campaign staff on internal program launch documentation
    • Planning milestones over life of program and develop plans for the guarantee program.
    • Tracking alignment and progress with UWKC's theory of change (implicitly, this role is closest to the program inside UWKC and should recognize when program adjustments are needed and serve as point person on these adjustments).
    • Ability to communicate to UWKC's internal and external stakeholders what the Program is seeking to do, explaining progress.
    • Lender Engagement:
    • Serving as the primary liaison between Locus on the creation of the Puget Sound Loan Guarantee Pool and the local consultant assisting with the creation of that fund.
    • Working alongside consultant during initial fund start up to introduce the program to local lender ecosystem (w. support from Locus).
    • Organizing stakeholder workshops to promote the program locally (w. support from Locus).
    • In addition to the above which is about generating leads for lender enrollment, this role should be regularly in touch with lenders to get feedback to inform adjustments and progress toward theory of change.
    • Potentially serve as part of the body that approves lenders into the program.
    • Reporting:
    • Internally identifying the reporting criteria (ex: what is important for UWKC to track) (w. support from Locus).
    • Coordinating an internal process and timeline around reporting.
    • Operationalizing lender reporting with Locus.
    • Serve as lead in sharing program learnings with other UWs and potential partners. May involve working with Communications team at UWKC.
    • Other Key Duties:
    • Participates in Community Services Team leadership and strategic planning and supports teamwork to implement United Way’s shared racial equity vision and practices.
    • Develops ongoing relationships in the community and participates in and represents United Way/CST with external collaboratives and coalitions focusing on BIPOC agency capacity building, participatory funding, etc., so that asset building related grantmaking is guided, informed by, and/or co-created with those most impacted by structural racial inequities.
    • Participates in and represents United Way/CST with external collaboratives and coalitions focusing on BIPOC community asset building, BIPOC agency capacity building, participatory funding, etc.
    • Works with local and national organizations including funders and advocacy groups aligned with the United Way of King County Equity Funds; promotes United Way’s initiatives and identifies and implements equitable strategies and leverages additional funding sources.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Demonstrated understanding of social and racial justice and equity, with a proven commitment to apply racial and economic justice lenses in both personal and workplace contexts.
    • Extensive understanding of community development finance, lending experience and familiarity with how community development lenders work (how they find clients/borrowers, underwrite loans, etc).
    • Familiarity with Special Purpose Credit Programs and Community Development Financial Institutions.
    • Lived experience and/or demonstrated professional skills working within a diverse work environment.
    • Demonstrated intermediate knowledge of trends and best practices in asset building approaches for historically marginalized communities and can apply knowledge gained to enhance and advance United Way strategies.
    • Successful track record building relationships with a diversity of stakeholders and collaborating effectively to develop and implement strategies.
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively under deadline pressures.
    • Proven ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) and ability to adapt style variety of mediums and audiences.
    • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze complex problems/issues and to communicate effectively with others.
    • Demonstrated ability to respond to both opportunities and obstacles with agility and flexibility to keep teams on track to meet project goals.
    • Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office products and competency to adopt new technology needed to perform role.

    Education and/or Experience:

    Bachelor’s degree specializing in Business, Finance, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related discipline; and 5-10 years progressively responsible project management experience. Must have at least 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in areas such as housing and community development, community development finance, small business lending and capacity building, and/or program management. Demonstrated community development finance experience is required.
