    PART-TIME COUNSELOR ADVOCATE

    Partnership with Children works with public schools in New York City’s highest-need communities to provide critical social and emotional services for the hardest-to-reach youth and to systematically support schools that are safe, successful, and conducive to learning.

    The Counselor Advocate will work in a successful and thriving environment that will help promote the social and emotional well-being of children. Under the supervision of the Site Director, the Counselor Advocate will play a key role in providing academic and emotional support to students individually and in groups. The counselor advocate will facilitate discussions and activities on decision making, social action identifying values, communication, critical thinking, conflict resolution while providing a safe and nurturing environment.

    The main goals of the counselor advocate is to:

    o Check in with participants regularly to make sure they are accessing programming and

    services, in school or elsewhere, that will help them meet their academic and emotional goals

    o Ensure that cohort activities and projects reflect participant choice

    o Provide individual counseling, as needed.

    o Promote a culture of learning, high expectations, and college and career readiness in a safe, supportive environment

    o Maintain regular contact with school personnel as well as with individual participants and the cohort as a whole.

    Responsibilities:

    • Mentor a caseload of chronically absent students by serving as a 'coach' and 'sounding board'
    • Train volunteer mentors, and oversee mentor-mentee engagement
    • Develop strong rapport with students to empower them to achieve attendance and academic goals, and engage families in the process
    • Collaborate with school support staff, including parent coordinator, attendance teachers, and outreach workers, to develop strategies to increase student attendance and academic performance
    • Participate on the school attendance team and manage data collection and assessment
    • Assist in planning, organizing, and facilitating workshops and events for students and families
    • Keep thorough notes of outreach in organization’s cloud-based system
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications:

    • Commitment to demonstrating PWC’s organizational values of Collaboration, Continuous Learning, Going to Solution, Equity & Inclusion, and Passion
    • Bachelor’s Degree, required; BSW/MSW preferred
    • Passion for and experience working in high-needs communities
    • Experience working in NYC public schools, or with community-based organizations, preferred
    • Ability to work in fast-paced environment, flexible, organized and can-do attitude
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Google Docs and Dropbox

    The counselor advocate would:

    Schedule:

    • Part-time (8:30 am – 4:30pm Mon-Fri); 25-30 hours per week
    • This is a SY 24/25 position and will end on 6/26/2025
    • This is a school-based, in-person position

    Salary:

    $20 per hour
