ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Appeals & Donor Communications
- Manage fundraising communications calendar and develop a strategy for soliciting and cultivating individual donors throughout the year through email, social media, and direct mail
- Draft donor communications materials directed to current and potential donors, constituent groups, and the general public, including e-solicitations throughout the year, year-end fundraising, and other appeal opportunities
- In collaboration with the Director of Communications and Marketing, maximize social media and other digital resources to target previously untapped networks to identify, engage, and solicit prospective donors and supporters.
- Expand and manage recurring giving program, S:UStainers, including drafting donor communications, stewarding recurring donors, and advising on strategy
- Work with Development and External Affairs Coordinator to segment donors for tailored messaging and track data related to the success of donor communications efforts and recommend strategy adjustments as needed
- Create a renewals program for individual donors, drafting tailored communications to request that donors renew and/or increase their giving
Major Gifts
- Support Director of Development and Chief Development and External Affairs Officer in strategizing and planning identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major donor prospects
- Use data from donor communications and appeal program to recommend individuals with capacity to become major donors for further engagement
- Prepare donor research and briefings for the Chief Development Officer, CEO, and Board members, and personally participate in solicitations, as appropriate
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate meetings, prepare agendas, and act as liaison to handle meeting logistics.
- Synthesize S:US’ programs into clear, compelling proposals, reports, communications, and letters to individuals.
- Help create and oversee Planned Giving program, including promoting, identifying, soliciting, and stewarding of donors.
- In collaboration with department leadership, re-envision, re-name, and re-launch a Young Leaders Council
- Support Associate Vice President of Special Events in the creation and implementation of donor cultivation events
Administration & Strategy
- Collaborate with Director of Development to create yearly Individual Giving and Major Gifts fundraising strategy as well as plans to target relevant constituencies
- Work with Development and External Affairs Coordinator to track all engagement with individual donors in Raiser’s Edge and to prepare reports, dashboards, and other analysis as needed
- Keep updated on S:US program developments that may be relevant to share with donors; collaborate with S:US program staff to find out more information and source stories of people served
- Participate in special projects and perform other duties, as required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- 3-5+ years of non-profit experience, including experience in building donor/funder or community relationships and writing content for donors or other external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of best practices in digital and print fundraising and online marketing, including email and social media fundraising
- Experience with email marketing software (Constant Contact, Mailchimp, etc,) and basic graphic design skills
- Strong writing skills and experience explaining the societal issues addressed by S:US to an external audience of donors, with a strong sense of which aspects of S:US’ work will most resonate and how to describe them in a compelling manner
- Proactive, creative thinker with the ability to independently manage several projects simultaneously as well as to work flexibly and adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to communicate effectively and interact professionally with colleagues, donors, vendors and board members.
- Ability to navigate a large, complex organization with many moving parts and priorities.
- A genuine commitment to DEI in principle and in practice in all aspects of work.
- Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel and Outlook).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Undergraduate Degree
- Experience with donor database software
- Knowledge of the New York City business, government, and philanthropic communities
