    Description

    Pittsburgh Mennonite Church is seeking a part-time Children and Youth Minister to coordinate programming for a diverse and growing group of kids ages 0-18. Weekly Sunday programming includes nursery care (age 0-5) and children’s worship (6-12) during the service, Kid’s Club (age 6-12) childcare & programming after the service, and youth programming for middle schoolers and high schoolers. This individual will play a key role in coordinating/structuring these programs and providing leadership to a group of volunteers and a small number of paid staff who assist with programming. These responsibilities include recruiting, training, approving, and scheduling volunteers/staff, selecting curriculum, organizing programming schedules, and communicating with other church leadership. This individual will also assist with running children’s programming regularly.

    Ministry

    • Assist Children & Youth Commission with curriculum research and implementation, including ordering curriculum and supplies, and coordinating the structure & schedule of programming for all ages (Children’s Worship, Kids Club, Middle and High School Youth)
    • Build relationships with the children themselves, parents/guardians in the congregation, and leaders of junior and senior youth programming.
    • Regularly lead Children’s Worship (3-4 times per month)
    • Assist C&Y Commission in coordinating childcare for PMC’s annual Church Retreat.

    Administration

    • Serve as a point person for paid childcare staff (days-off requests, periodic check-ins, and programming and supplies needs)
    • Coordinate scheduling of staff and volunteers for:
      • Children’s Worship
      • Nursery
      • Kid’s Club
    • Work with Children & Youth Commission to coordinate PMC kids’ participation in conference and denominational events (i.e. communication with PMC families, disbursement of funds,) including:
      • Winterville
      • Summer Camp at Laurelville
      • MCUSA Convention
    • Work with Children & Youth Commission to maintain the list of approved volunteers and follow up with anyone who needs to submit/update clearances to comply with the church’s child safety policy, including child safety training a few times a year.
    • Attend Children & Youth Commission monthly meetings.

    Job Requirements:

    • Experience working with a diverse group of children and youth. Sensitivity and flexibility to work with parents and children, including children with special needs, preferably with a trauma-informed approach.
    • Understanding of child faith formation, preferably from an Anabaptist and/or peace and justice lens.
    • Commitment to child safety, with PA State Police, FBI, and Child Abuse History Clearances.
    • Attend worship at PMC a minimum of three Sundays per month.
