Patriotic Millionaires is a collection of wealthy Americans that leverages its influence and unique voice to advance a vibrant and equitable economy, built on the foundation of a fair tax system, a livable wage floor, and equal access to political power. We are looking for a full-time Communications Director who cannot wait to be a part of our movement. Our primary office is located in Washington, DC, and this is a hybrid role (a successful candidate will reside in the Washington, DC area). Those with at least 4-6 years of experience with public/media relations and communications should apply, Capitol Hill and/or Administration experience is a plus. We will review applications on a rolling basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as “editor in chief” across all departments at Patriotic Millionaires, providing a critical eye on key documents from lobbying to development, to ensure clarity and message consistency
- Manage a 2-4 person communications team plus consultants, delegating and assigning tasks, overseeing daily work and quality assurance, hiring, and mentoring
- Write, edit, publish, and promote engaging and accessible content on Patriotic Millionaires’ core issues: taxes, wages, and political equality
- Identify key media inflection points, and write and publish emails, press releases, statements, and op-eds in response
- Provide strategic planning, content direction, and editorial support for a grassroots email marketing campaign
- Oversee digital and social media advocacy program, providing strategic guidance, messaging instruction, and content drafting for Patriotic Millionaires’ social media platforms
- Manage relationships with media members covering key issues for the Patriotic Millionaires
- Pitch stories to journalists, influencers, bloggers, podcasters, and other parts of the diverse media universe, with the goal of continuing to make the Patriotic Millionaires the go-to source of issue expertise for media members covering tax and wage policy, and preservation of democracy
- Coordinate access to members of the Patriotic Millionaires for statements and interviews, and pitch member op-eds to multiple outlets
- Oversee key contractors supporting core pieces of the organization’s work, including media relations and email marketing
- Manage relationships with members of the Patriotic Millionaires, synthesizing member feedback into public-facing communications, identifying appropriate members for commentary on breaking news, and working with members to ghostwrite and/or edit statements and op-eds
Qualifications
- 4-6 years in public/media relations and communications, ideally at a nonprofit, Capitol Hill, the Administration, or in politics; 2+ years of management experience is greatly preferred
- Exemplary writing and editing skills are a MUST; you should be able to take complex policies and make them accessible to the average person
- Experience with collaborative writing, must be comfortable writing in the voice of various members of the organization’s leadership and membership
- Extensive experience in managing an advocacy-oriented social media program
- Successful candidates can thrive in a fast-paced, campaign-like culture with a deep appreciation/joy for always-on news cycles
- Candidates should have a proven passion for economic justice
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both collaboratively and independently
- Ability to be flexible, transition quickly, and re-prioritize
- Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to produce high-quality work in a dynamic, high-pressured environment
- Strong organizational skills, including excellent attention to detail, the ability to prioritize and multitask, and the ability to manage several moving and changing parts
- Bachelor's degree
- Proficient in Google Workspace and Office 365
