    Description

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    The Staff Accountant oversees a non-profit organization's various business and administrative functions, focusing on general ledger accounting and analysis.

    Duties:

    • Month-End Close Responsibilities: Analyze and prepare journal entries related to general accruals, prepaid expenses, insurance, and chargeback of labor related to events
    • Account Reconciliations
    • Budget-to-actuals variance analysis.
    • Grant Accounting as needed: Analyzing expenses related to grants received and ensuring expenses are by grantors' intent.
    • Fund Reporting Monthly – Managed detailed reporting of fund activity
    • Prepare ad hoc reporting as requested.
    • Fixed Assets – Assisting Senior Accountant with analyzing and capitalizing fixed assets from capital and funded accounts.
    • Assist in year-end financial audits, including preparing year-end audit schedules and gathering other required information.
    • Maintain accounting files in compliance with records retention policy.
    • Complete special assignments and any other ad hoc projects as requested by the Controller or the CFO.

    Skills and Abilities Required:

    Strong knowledge of accounting. Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills. Must have analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, a high level of accuracy, and the ability to manage projects, tasks, and time. Knowledge of the non-profit work environment is preferred.

    Education and Experience Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, and business management with an emphasis on accounting.
    • Minimum of three to five years’ experience in accounting with knowledge of non-profit accounting methods.

    Computer Equipment and Software Requirements:

    Microsoft Suite, with an emphasis on strong Microsoft Excel skills. Blackbaud—Financial Edge/FE NXT (or similar enterprise-level accounting package). General computer skills, including familiarity with the Windows 10 operating system and related business applications.
