    EDS ANNOUNCES SEARCH FOR DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND OPERATIONS

    Episcopal Divinity School (EDS) seeks a Director of Finance and Operations who combines strong financial management with the ability to build trust across all levels of the organization. The ideal candidate will be equally skilled at presenting complex financial information to our Board of Trustees and creating accessible operational systems that center our people. We seek a leader who can oversee financial operations while strengthening our operational foundation during a time of institutional growth.

    The Director will partner with the President and Executive Director to ensure EDS's long-term sustainability and operational excellence while upholding our core values of social justice, inclusivity, and innovation. As an engaged thought partner, they will identify opportunities for efficiency, build flexible systems, and anticipate organizational needs.

    The position is remote with occasional travel.

    Strategic Priorities & Responsibilities

    The Director of Finance and Operations will advance EDS's mission through strategic leadership in the following areas:

    • Drive institutional sustainability through strategic financial planning, working closely with the President, Executive Director, and Board to ensure resources align with EDS's commitment to justice-focused theological education
    • Provide transformational leadership in operational systems and processes, creating an infrastructure that supports streamlined collaboration and innovative theological formation
    • Foster an inclusive organizational culture through equitable HR practices and policies that reflect EDS's commitment to uplifting marginalized voices
    • Serve as primary liaison with the Church Pension Group and other benefits providers, ensuring effective benefits administration and compliance with Episcopal Church requirements
    • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, working with the President, Executive Director, and Board to evaluate and manage relationships with service providers including external auditors
    • Work closely with the Board on strategic resource allocation, providing data analysis and recommendations to support decisions that balance mission advancement with long-term financial health
    • Lead change management initiatives that strengthen EDS's capacity to serve an evolving church and world
    • Create transparent systems for financial reporting and operational accountability that demonstrate ethical stewardship
    • Design and implement operational processes that support EDS's hybrid/virtual learning environment
    • Ensure institutional resources are deployed effectively to support justice-centered theological education

    Leadership Experience & Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will bring:

    • Proven track record of strategic financial and operational leadership that advances institutional mission
    • Experience with staff development, performance management and creating accountability systems that support both individual and organizational growth
    • Demonstrated success in transforming systems while maintaining organizational stability
    • Experience creating inclusive HR policies and practices that support diverse communities
    • Strong background in nonprofit financial management
    • Knowledge of Episcopal Church and Church Pension Group structures beneficial
    • Expertise with outsourced partnerships and virtual operations
    • Education or training that demonstrates the financial, operational, and leadership capabilities needed for this role
    • Excellent collaboration skills and willingness to learn
