    Virginia Early Childhood Foundation (VECF) on behalf of the Virginia Alliance for Family Child Care Associations (VAFCCA) is seeking a Full-time Director.

    Job Overview

    The Virginia Alliance for Family Child Care Associations (VAFCCA) seeks its first full-time Director to lead the organization during a pivotal period of growth and impact. The Director will be responsible for both executive leadership and day-to-day management operations, driving the implementation of the new strategic plan. This role includes a blend of high-level strategy—working with the Board of Directors, funders, and key stakeholders—and operational execution to build and sustain the organization.

    The ideal candidate is a dynamic, self-motivated leader with a passion for early childhood education and an entrepreneurial spirit. They must have a strong understanding of Virginia's family child care ecosystem, an ability to work effectively with a governing board, and a commitment to fostering impactful advocacy, vibrant membership growth, and improved professional practices for the family child care industry.

    The VAFCCA Board and VECF worked together to create an implementation plan to ensure the strategic plan moves forward. Presently, VECF and a small team of consultants are kickstarting that implementation plan. The consultants will be available to support the new Director’s onboarding.

    Key Responsibilities

    Strategic Leadership and Governance

    • Collaborate with the Board of Directors: Partner with the Board and VECF staff and contractors to grow and diversify Board membership, provide staff support for Board meetings, and ensure effective governance.
    • Policy Development: Establish and implement organizational policies and procedures to support organizational growth and sustainability.
    • Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate relationships with regional associations, the National Association for Family Child Care, funders, Ready Regions, and other partners to advance VAFCCA's mission.

    Financial Oversight and Resource Development

    • Budget Management: Prepare and monitor the annual operating budget in partnership with the Board Treasurer and VECF ensuring the organization's fiscal health.
    • Fundraising Strategy: Develop and execute a fundraising plan to secure diverse revenue streams, including grants, contracts, and donations. Ensure compliance with reporting requirements for funders.

    Advocacy and Sector Representation

    • Advocate for Family Child Care: Represent VAFCCA and its members in policy discussions, leveraging data and amplifying provider voices to inform and advance advocacy efforts. Engage with policymakers, funders, and the public to elevate the sector's profile.
    • Engage Members: Mobilize the membership base to participate in advocacy and policy initiatives, ensuring alignment with the needs and priorities of family child care providers.

    Program and Membership Development

    • Membership Growth and Retention: Design and execute strategies to recruit and retain members; oversee the membership lifecycle, maintain regular communication, and analyze trends to inform retention efforts.
    • Program Implementation: Plan, implement, and evaluate programs and services aligned with VAFCCA's mission and strategic goals.
    • Sector Support: Provide direct support to providers, helping them navigate regulatory changes and maintain compliance.

    Administrative and Operational Leadership

    • Provide Regular Updates: Submit monthly reports to the Board on organizational operations, programmatic progress, financial health and fiscal stability.
    • Day-to-Day Management: Oversee all administrative tasks, including managing vendors, volunteers, and strategic partnerships.
    • Data and Evaluation: Develop systems for data collection and analysis to inform organizational decisions, program design, and advocacy efforts.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • A minimum of 5 years of experience in association or nonprofit management, with a strong understanding of the family child care industry, member-based organizations, policy advocacy, and stakeholder collaboration.
    • Experience managing administrative and financial operations, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance. A proven ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders, such as Board members, policymakers, and family child care providers.
    • Familiarity with nonprofit governance, policies, and contract oversight.
    • Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to assess risks and opportunities and communicate clearly.
    • Ability to inspire and motivate volunteers and Board members to support the organization’s mission.
    • Highly organized and self-motivated, with decision-making skills and an ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
    • A commitment to cultural competence, equity and respect to engage effectively with diverse communities.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for varied audiences.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and virtual meeting platforms.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of the family child care sector, including challenges, opportunities and policies specific to Virginia.
    • Knowledge of national, regional, and local legislative and policy development affecting family child care providers.
    • Experience working within the Virginia early childhood care and education policy ecosystem.
    • Understanding of best practices in governance and reporting to a Board of Directors.
    • Experience designing and implementing programs to address systemic barriers or policy challenges.

    Compensation: Commensurate with experience; anticipated salary range is $85,000-$95,000 plus benefits valued at more than 25% of salary
