The New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NYSPCC) seeks a motivated, devoted professional with a strong nonprofit accounting background to serve as a Senior Accountant. The position is full-time Monday through Friday. The position will involve a hybrid of in-person and remote work. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Operations, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for a multitude of accounting processes including journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, accounts receivables, monthly close and audit preparation.
Responsibilities:
Track, code and record all contributions
Assist with annual audit
Prepare invoices to bill for NYSPCC services
Prepare payment vouchers and required backup to bill for Government Grants
Manage and reconcile accounts receivables for all programs
Perform monthly analysis of prepaid, accounts payable, accounts receivable and other balance sheet accounts
Work closely with the Development Department to reconcile special events and individual giving revenue
Perform monthly bank reconciliations
Function as a backup to bi-weekly payroll processing and accounts payable
Prepare and enter payroll journal entry
Provide support to the Director of Finance & Operations and backup to the Finance & Operations Team
Supervise the Manager of Accounting
Perform other duties and responsibilities including ad-hoc projects as needed
Qualifications:
Accounting or relevant bachelor’s degree •
Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in nonprofit accounting
Must be computer-literate and proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher), email applications and the Internet
Must have some experience working with accounting database programs like QuickBooks
Enthusiasm, commitment to excellence, self-motivation, a professional demeanor, is highly organized and detail-oriented
Capable of keeping sensitive information confidential
