    Al Otro Lado is a binational legal services and immigrant rights organization serving immigrants, asylum seekers and deported persons in Southern California, Tijuana, México, and beyond. We approach cases using a multidisciplinary, client-centered, abolitionist, harm reduction-based lens, and engage in zealous individual representation, human rights monitoring and impact litigation to protect the rights of individual immigrants and challenge systemic injustice. We leverage vital partnerships with community-based organizations and academic institutions, and engage thousands of volunteers to maximize our impact and help build a broad-based immigrant justice movement.

    THE DATA & POLICY ANALYST POSITION

    The Data & Policy Analyst seeks a highly motivated and skilled Data & Policy Analyst to join our team. The Data & Policy Analyst will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data related to immigration policies and the challenges facing immigrants to support evidence-based advocacy efforts. The analyst will be expected to clearly communicate technical findings, including using advanced statistical analyses, to both expert and lay audiences. This individual will work closely with the leadership team and other staff members to develop policy recommendations and contribute to the organization's overall advocacy and policy strategy.

    This position is a hybrid position based out of our San Diego office with both in-person and remote work opportunities, or fully remote for the right applicant. Applicants ideally would have the ability to travel to Tijuana, Mexico up to four times per year.

    JOB DUTIES

    The Data & Policy Analyst responsibilities include but are not limited:

    • Collect, organize, and manage mixed-methods data related to immigration policies and programs
    • Develop and maintain databases or access existing databases to manage and analyze data on immigration policies
    • Analyze quantitative data through advanced statistical analysis using Stata, R and/or Python
    • Generate qualitative and mixed-methods data with Qualtrics and analyze mixed- methods data using Nvivo or Atlas.ti
    • Develop data-driven policy recommendations based on quantitative and qualitative analyses and research
    • Demonstrate strong research, writing, analytical and communications skills through the drafting of data visualizations and policy reports to communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders
    • Collaborate with other staff members to develop and implement advocacy campaigns and strategies
    • Monitor and analyze changes in immigration policies and programs and assess their impact on immigration
    • Represent the organization at meetings, conferences, and other events related to immigration policy and advocacy, including providing briefings
    • Perform other duties as needed in keeping with the mission of the organization

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master's degree in a relevant field such as statistics, data science, or public policy preferred, Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field + 1-3 years of experience in data analysis, statistical modeling, or related fields also acceptable
    • Strong quantitative skills and experience with data analysis tools
    • Experience with large datasets and at least one statistical analysis software or programming language
    • Familiarity with immigration policies, programs, and regulations
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to synthesize complex information and analyses into multiple formats such as policy memos and long-form policy reports
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Spanish or Haitian Kreyol proficiency a plus.
    • Experience with Eimmigration highly preferred

    This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $65,000 - $80,000 DOE and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
