    Job Title: Legal Intern

    Location: Jackson, MS

    Reports to: President

    Classification: Full Time Associates (Exempt)

    Job Summary:

    The Foundation for the Mid South is seeking an energetic, responsible Summer Intern to join our growing organization. The Intern will work in partnership with other staff members to provide support services for the Foundation’s program areas. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain an extensive and diverse perspective of the nonprofit sector. Interns may also have the chance to participate in engagement opportunities, which require exceptional writing, research, and analytical abilities. The President, VP of Programs, and VP of People and Culture will supervise the respective roles.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Legal Intern

    • Conduct legal research on relevant laws and regulations.
    • Analyze legal issues related to the nonprofit’s mission or operations.
    • Draft legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and memoranda.
    • Assist in reviewing and editing organizational policies and procedures.
    • Ensure the nonprofit complies with local, state, and federal laws.
    • Research and draft position statements, fact sheets, or advocacy letters.
    • Support policy initiatives aligned with the nonprofit’s goals.
    • Attend staff meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
    • Support fundraising or grant-writing initiatives from a legal perspective.

    Qualifications:

    Summer internship dates can be flexible depending on the student’s academic schedule.

    Education: Must be pursuing a bachelor’s or associate degree or graduating senior and entering an undergraduate program.

    Skills:

    • Ability to write clear, concise, and well-structured reports, research papers, and summaries.
    • Capability to present findings, participate in meetings, and discuss research topics with peers or supervisors.
    • Ability to collaborate with other team members, researchers, or stakeholders.

    Ethical and Professional Standards:

    • Understanding the importance of confidentiality, especially with sensitive data.
    • Familiarity with ethical guidelines for conducting research, including human subjects, data integrity, and transparency

    Software Proficiency: Knowledge of specific research tools and software (e.g., Excel, Microsoft 365, and Adobe) depending on the research area.
