    Overview

    Location: The position will be based in the Hudson Valley (Dutchess, Orange, or Ulster County). We may be able to offer a stipend to cover relocation expenses.

    Type of position: Full time, 40 hours, exempt

We are coming together across race and age to fight for laws and win elections that put the power back in our hands and create lasting change.

    Job Responsibilities

    This job is in partnership with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Amazon Division and Teamsters Local 445

    • Conduct outreach at warehouses and other locations
    • Support work site organizing committees, including through 1-1s and group meetings
    • Educate workers about their rights and support their shopfloor organizing
    • Continuously update and maintain data
    • Coordinate with and support the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Amazon Division and Teamsters Local 445

    Other duties & responsibilities

    • Meet with supervisor on a regular basis
    • Participate in weekly staff and coordination meetings
    • Participate in other organizational activities, including recruiting volunteers and soliciting donors from your existing social networks, supporting organizing efforts through phonebanking, canvassing, and facilitation, attending staff retreats, and engaging with staff culture building

    Work requirements

    • In-person work. We expect this organizer to constantly be meeting with workers in their workplaces or elsewhere in the field, and at our offices. This position is based in our Newburgh office.
    • Evening & weekend hours. Depending on the needs of the work, this position will be expected to work irregular hours, including on nights, weekends, and holidays. We provide flexible scheduling and comp time to ensure sustainability in the position.
    • Ability to drive. Must have a driver's license, and daily access to a working car with current car insurance, and be willing to travel across the Hudson Valley regularly.
    • Comfortable walking multiple miles per day. We expect this organizer to spend multiple hours per week on outreach, which will include being on your feet for multiple hours at a time.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

    • Experienced organizer. 3+ years experience with labor organizing.
    • Orientation toward leadership development. Committed to developing the leadership of workers and staff through feedback, support, and accountability. Demonstrated ability to develop rank-and-file leadership.
    • Strong relationship builder. Meets people where they are at, and brings curiosity and warmth to bring them into the organization. Shares from own experience to build connection. Committed to developing the leadership of members through feedback, support, and accountability.
    • Effective speaker. Effectively communicates about our work and beliefs, whether it’s at a rally, meeting, or one-on-one conversation.
    • Highly motivated. Inspires and motivates others to take action and meet ambitious goals. Adjusts and problem-solves on the fly when things don’t go according to plan. Brings creativity to shifting challenges.
    • Consistent and reliable. Doesn’t let tasks fall through the cracks, shows up on time, and communicates when they are not able to.
    • Commitment to building a powerful organizational culture, grounded in emotional awareness, proactive and direct communication, generative feedback and debate, and support and accountability.
