    Job Summary:

    AWRC (Arizona Women’s Recovery Center), Phoenix is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing substance abuse treatment to women through a variety of programs to address individual needs. All of AWRC’s programs focus on providing the tools and resources to assist women in living financially independent, drug and alcohol-free lives.

    AWRC provides supportive and rehabilitative services to individuals and their families requiring assistance dealing with substance use issues, such as alcohol or drug use, mental health disorders and other co-occurring mental or physical health needs. The Peer Support Specialist/BHT shall report to the Peer Support Case Manager Supervisor. This is a safety-sensitive position.

    Essential Responsibilities

    • The Peer Support Specialist duties and responsibilities include:
    • Serves as a live experienced expert, mentor, teacher, and advocate.
    • Provides supportive services to adults recovering from alcohol and drug addiction including peer support, case management, community/service referral, education, living skills training, outreach, employment assistance and relationship skills training.
    • Providing support could include: Teaching independence (autonomy), focus and identify a person’s strengths, listen to people’s experiences, role model that people can recover and be healthy, encourage people to succeed, and teach recovery.
    • Provides supportive services, including education and community/service referral to family members of adult clients.
    • Understands and recognizes the “Stages of Change,” for each individual client.
    • Reads and implements client treatment plans under the supervision of the appropriate supervisor.
    • Provides transportation to and from appointments, driving a 12-passenger van transporting women and infants to community resources, appointments, 12-step meetings, etc.
    • All services are to be delivered within the scope of the agency and the peer support specialist’s personal skills and knowledge. In addition, all services are to be delivered under the supervision of the appropriate supervisor and the Clinical Director.
    • Recognizes, prevents, and responds to client crisis situations.
    • Assists clients in accessing community services and resources.
    • Records and documents client information in compliance with organizational standards.
    • Ensures compliance with all necessary reporting requirements and billing procedures. Protects client rights and confidentiality.
    • Recognizes and respects cultural differences. Demonstrates ethical behavior toward all client, staff and community stakeholders.
    • Practices and role-models positive mental hygiene and the use of recovery tools to ensure overall personal wellness.
    • Adherence to all Arizona laws regarding use of seat belts and car seats with agency vehicles to ensure the safety of clients while transporting them.
    • Participate at minimum monthly supervision.

    Non-Essential Responsibilities

    Other duties as assigned to include, but not limited to assisting various departments and assisting with front reception and clerical duties as needed.

    Required Qualifications

    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Must possess a valid Arizona Driver’s License (without restrictions)
    • High School Diploma or G.E.D
    • Possess a Peer Support Specialist Certification
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Must pass a Background Check
    • Must pass drug screening
    • Must have one-year AOD
