    Description

    About Better Angels

Los Angeles is facing an epidemic of homelessness. Despite billions of dollars approved by taxpayers to address the crisis over the last several years, the situation has further deteriorated. Government cannot handle this epidemic alone. Existing nonprofits, despite best intentions, have been too constrained to have the broad impact necessary to address the issue at scale. We believe that the time has come to rally the residents of LA to tackle homelessness head on. Better Angels will take a bold, holistic approach to confront the many aspects of this huge, complex, and seemingly intractable problem with particular focus on the following pillars: Prevention, Sanitation, Services, Shelter and Housing.

As our Director of Marketing, you will bring your creativity, experience and entrepreneurial thinking to drive impact. In addition to supporting Better Angels, you will oversee marketing for our sister nonprofit organizations, 1p.org and 97percent. 1P.org is a nonprofit focused on addressing some of the most intractable issues facing our one planet and 97percent is a nonprofit focused on reducing gun violence by bringing gun owners into the gun safety conversation.

    Role Overview

We are seeking a Director of Marketing to lead and execute a comprehensive marketing strategy that elevates Better Angels' brand, expands our reach with the community as well as key stakeholders and drives engagement across multiple platforms. This role requires a marketing generalist with a deep understanding of digital and traditional marketing, content creation, brand storytelling, and community engagement. Strong communication and writing skills are essential, and Spanish fluency is preferred.

This role is ideal for a marketer who thrives in fast-paced environments and is passionate about driving change.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Marketing Strategy & Execution: Develop and implement a full-funnel marketing strategy to increase awareness, engagement, volunteer recruitment and impact.
    • Brand & Messaging: Ensure consistency in brand voice, messaging, and visual identity across all channels.
    • Content & Communications: Oversee content creation for the website, social media, email campaigns, and press materials. Write and edit compelling content that resonates with our audience.
    • Public Relations & Media Outreach: Build relationships with media, craft press releases, and pitch stories to amplify our message.
    • Digital Marketing & Social Media: Manage social media strategy, email marketing, and paid digital campaigns to drive engagement and conversions.
    • Community Engagement: Develop campaigns that connect with and inspire action from our audience, including grassroots initiatives and partnerships.
    • Fundraising & Growth Marketing: Support development efforts by creating compelling donor communications and marketing materials.
    • Analytics & Performance Tracking: Use data to measure campaign success and optimize marketing efforts for maximum impact.

    Your Experience

    • Marketing leadership in agencies, consumer-facing startups, nonprofits, or high-growth mission-driven organizations.
    • Proven expertise in multi-channel marketing, digital/social strategy, and community engagement.
    • Creative thinker with the ability to strategize, problem-solve, and adapt to changing circumstances.
    • Strong background in public relations, high-profile event marketing, or executive communications.
    • Deep understanding of growth marketing, audience segmentation, and digital marketing trends.
    • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
    • Proven leadership and managerial experience (8-10+years) with the ability to mentor and coach professionals and volunteers.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
    • Spanish fluency (preferred but not required).

    Work Environment

While this is a remote role, you won’t be lonely! You’ll collaborate with our smart and motivated internal teammates, volunteers, and pro-bono agencies supporting paid advertising and other initiatives. The position allows for schedule autonomy, provided you’re available for meetings during standard business hours.

    Marketing Tech Stack

We use the following tools to drive marketing success.

    • Email Marketing: Mailchimp
    • Website: Webflow
    • Design & Editing: Adobe Lightroom, Canva
    • Video Production: CapCut, DaVinci
    • Social & Ads: Meta Suite, Google & Meta Advertising

    Why This Role Matters

This isn’t just a marketing job—it’s an opportunity to empower a team, activate volunteers, and amplify the impact of a mission-driven organization. The right leader will shape these brands while ensuring marketing efforts are innovative, inclusive, and deeply resonant across diverse communities.

If you’re a visionary marketing leader with a heart for service, a passion for storytelling, and the ability to mentor and inspire others while driving marketing innovation, we want to hear from you!

Better Angels is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We strongly encourage applications from people of color, women, people with disabilities, immigrants, and LGBTQIA+ individuals. If your experience and skills align with this role, we want to hear from you.
