    Development Officer

    Together for Girls works in over 20 countries around the world and combines state of the art data with powerful advocacy to end violence against children and adolescents, especially sexual violence. We are a nimble and highly impactful team that continues to grow and evolve. We work with a broad range of organizations, researchers, and advocates to drive change.

    In 2022, Together for Girls launched and continues to host the Brave Movement, a global advocacy movement of survivors and allies working to end childhood sexual violence.

    Position Overview

    Together for Girls is seeking a Development Officer to play a key role in identifying new funding opportunities, supporting donor cultivation and stewardship, and helping to establish a new individual giving strategy. The Development Officer will conduct prospect research, track funding opportunities, and support donor engagement through personalized outreach, event coordination, and compelling storytelling. They will also contribute to the management of our donor database (EveryAction), ensure timely gift acknowledgment, and maintain accurate records to support fundraising efforts. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and passionate about building relationships that sustain and grow our mission.

    This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Development.

    Responsibilities and Duties

    Opportunity Identification and Prospect Research

    • Systematically scan for new funding opportunities using donor websites, portals, social media and fundraising resources.
    • Develop new opportunity summaries and produce Go No Go forms to inform decision-making.
    • Conduct in-depth prospect research on potential donors, recommending next steps in the cultivation process.

    Support donor cultivation and stewardship efforts

    • Prepare comprehensive meeting briefings for donor meetings and events.
    • Support with the planning of online and in-person events.
    • Collaborate with program staff to gather relevant data and stories that effectively communicate the impact and importance of our work.
    • Support the delivery of tailored stewardship and cultivation strategies, including producing bespoke updates.
    • Produce development-focused content for the newsletter, blog, website and social media.

    Support the set up and delivery of a new individual giving strategy

    • Collaborate with Development Team colleagues to design and launch an individual giving strategy, including donor acquisition, annual appeals, and major gifts.
    • Support the building and management of an individual donor pipeline, using personalized outreach to engage and nurture relationships with new and existing donors.
    • Lead on timely gift acknowledgment, recognition, and reporting to retain and upgrade donors.
    • Track donor interactions and giving history using CRM software, and provide regular progress reports to the Director of Development.

    Administrative Support

    • Oversee administrative tasks related to fundraising activities.
    • Maintain the Development Files in the G Drive.
    • Manage the organization's CRM system (EveryAction), ensuring accurate and up-to-date donor information and communication logs.
    • Ensure adherence to IRS and state fundraising regulations and best practices.

    Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

    • At least 3 years previous experience working in a fundraising team within the nonprofit sector.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling donor communications, thank-you letters, and stewardship reports.
    • Experience with individual giving and HNWI programs in the US, including an understanding of compliance with federal and state tax laws and registration regulations that apply to nonprofit organizations, is highly desirable.
    • Experience with CRM software (e.g., Salesforce, DonorPerfect, Raiser’s Edge).
    • Familiarity with social media platforms and best practices for nonprofit communications.

    Violence against children and adolescents is a prevalent and devastating global crisis. Sexual violence is a notable taboo, and often hidden, form of violence. Across the globe, one in five girls and one in seven boys will experience sexual violence in childhood - that’s three girls and two boys every second. Childhood sexual violence takes on many forms and it can happen to anyone.

    We need a world where every child and adolescent is safe, protected, and thriving. Decades of research show how effective solutions can prevent sexual violence, with policies and programs to ensure survivors access healing and justice.

    Together for Girls was created to work across sectors with a comprehensive and holistic approach to preventing and responding to violence. We understand that a multi-faceted problem like violence requires a multi-sectoral, radically collaborative solutions. Our partners include survivor activists, civil society, national governments, United Nations entities, and the world’s foremost leaders in global health, gender equity, development, and violence prevention and response.

    Location & Ways of Working

    This is a full-time position based in the Washington, D.C. metro area. While we offer flexibility in work arrangements, candidates must be located within the region to support in-person donor meetings, events, and collaboration with key stakeholders as needed. Applicants should have work authorization prior to their application.

    This is currently a remote position with the expectation to travel to attend some in-person meetings periodically.

    All team members are expected to be available during Together for Girls’ priority scheduling hours of 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. The other four hours that the team member chooses to work are flexible and may be coordinated with their supervisor.
