    Job Title: Part-Time Shelter Advocate (Friday & Saturday, Overnight Shift)

    Schedule: Fridays and Saturdays 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM

    Reports To: Shelter Coordinator

    Alternative House provides comprehensive services to survivors of domestic violence, including emergency shelter, community-based advocacy, legal support, housing assistance, youth programming, and prevention education. Our mission is to facilitate the safety, stabilization, and empowerment of survivors while promoting social change through community education and systems advocacy.

    Position Summary

    The Overnight Shelter Advocate ensures the safety, security, and stability of the shelter environment during overnight hours. This role provides crisis support, maintains the integrity of the shelter through regular rounds, and assists residents when needed.

    Key Responsibilities

      • Hotline Coverage:
      • Answer overnight hotline calls promptly and professionally.
      • Provide crisis support, resources, and safety planning.
      • Log all calls per agency protocol.
      • Security & Safety:
      • Conduct and document regular overnight shelter rounds.
      • Set and unset shelter alarms at designated times.
      • Respond to any safety or security issues during the night shift.
      • Resident Support:
      • Offer emotional support, crisis intervention, or de-escalation as needed.
      • Respond to resident requests during the overnight hours respectfully and confidentially.
      • Facility Monitoring:
      • Ensure cleanliness of common areas and report any maintenance concerns.
      • Keep supplies organized and monitor for any shortages.
      • Documentation:
      • Complete necessary shift logs, incident reports, and communication logs.
      • Maintain confidentiality and secure all sensitive information.

    Qualifications

      • Prior experience in overnight, shelter, or crisis settings preferred
      • Calm and confident demeanor in emergencies
      • Excellent listening, documentation, and interpersonal skills
      • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
      • Bilingual skills a plus
