    Description

    RideWise Inc., a Bridgewater nonprofit dedicated to promoting safe and sustainable travel, is excited to announce an opening for a full-time Sustainable Transportation Coordinator. This grant-funded role offers the chance to work on meaningful projects and programs that support bicycling, walking, transit use, and electric vehicle adoption. You’ll report directly to the Executive Director and collaborate with other team members to ensure effective and timely program delivery.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Collaborating with municipal and county governments and private sector companies to implement policies and infrastructure that support the installation of EV charging stations.
    • Guiding local governments regarding laws, policies, procedures, and best practices for safely integrating micromobility vehicles (e-bikes, scooters) within their jurisdictions.
    • Working with law enforcement and schools to conduct speed studies using radar, evaluate the data, and prepare a report.
    • Engaging the community in promoting safe walking/biking, identifying barriers to walking/biking, and assisting with pedestrian safety campaigns and walk/bike assessments.
    • Learning the buses and trains in Somerset County and teaching older adults and people with disabilities how to travel safely using them.
    • Helping eligible schools in Somerset County, particularly those in disadvantaged communities, participate in the Safe Routes to School program by developing walking school buses, bike trains, and policies to support biking and walking to school, and helping schools achieve state-wide recognition for these initiatives.

    We are looking for someone who is passionate about sustainable transportation (walking, biking, transit, electric vehicles). The ideal candidate is skilled in organizing, planning, and independently managing multiple tasks and deadlines.

    Other essential skills include:

    • The ability and willingness to walk and bicycle up to 2 miles
    • Delivering dynamic presentations to various audiences (students, adults, persons with disabilities)
    • Building relationships with school and municipal officials, and community leaders
    • Excellent data analysis skills; the ability to translate data into uncomplicated terms
    • Managing projects with minimal supervision and tight deadlines
    • Passing a background check as required by the New Jersey Department of Transportation
    • Completing and passing the League of American Bicyclist League Cycling Instructor (LCI) Certification as required by the New Jersey Department of Transportation
    • Having a reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, valid vehicle insurance, and good driving record to get to/from the office and for travel and fieldwork throughout Somerset County
    • Being able to lift 25 pounds (to transport equipment, program materials)
    • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, and the ability to use standard office equipment (phone, printer, photocopiers)
    • Nonprofit experience is a plus
    • Familiarity with Somerset County a plus
