    Snug Harbor is an expansive cultural park on Staten Island where arts, nature, education, and history converge to offer dynamic programming, events, and festivals to our diverse community. Located less than 1.5 miles from the Staten Island Ferry and easily accessible by public transportation, Snug Harbor welcomes nearly 500,000 visitors each year. Visitors can explore multiple museums, performances, festivals, a farm, and 83 acres of gardens, parkland, woodland, and wetlands.

    Founded in 1977 as a nonprofit organization, Snug Harbor is one of the largest adaptive reuse projects in America, transforming a 19th-century charitable rest home for sailors into a vibrant hub of contemporary culture and community connection. Today, Snug Harbor’s mission is to create a vibrant cultural park on Staten Island, offering visual and performing arts, natural spaces, a historic site, classes across disciplines, lively festivals, and a variety of events for all.

    THE POSITION

    The Institutional Giving Specialist is a part-time, frontline fundraising position responsible for operating support from corporate and foundation sources, with government agencies as assigned. The Specialist will produce proposals, budgets, reports, and financials for institutional funders, including general operating support and program support in the visual and performing arts, horticulture, composting, urban farming, education, and workforce development. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of growing an institutional giving program, securing major grants, and engaging corporate sponsors.

    This position will report to the Executive Vice President (EVP), who oversees fundraising, board development, and government relations. This position will interface with the President & CEO, Senior Directors of the Regional Brand Experience, Community Impact, and Campus Administration teams, and program staff. The Specialist will be expected to bring strategy and robust implementation to Snug Harbor’s institutional giving, resulting in substantial revenue growth. While the role is available for remote work, some time onsite at Snug Harbor will be required.

    Responsibilities

    Oversee and manage institutional operating fund grants

    • Develop and implement an institutional funding plan to meet annual and long-term fundraising goals
    • Prepare and submit proposals to underwrite operating fund and programs to corporations and foundations, and government agencies as assigned
    • Track proposal deadlines, reporting, and financials, and grant compliance
    • Prepare fundraising reports, budgets, and analyses
    • Research, identify, and engage prospective funders
    • Stay informed about fundraising trends, techniques, and technology
    • Manage funder profiles in Patron Manager; with Development Assistant, enter gifts, generate acknowledgments

    Support Snug Harbor’s comprehensive fund development efforts

    • Develop a thorough understanding of Snug Harbor programs, initiatives, and needs
    • Collaborate with EVP, leadership, and program staff to develop annual and campaign institutional fundraising strategies
    • Support EVP and CEO with their institutional funder cultivation and stewardship
    • With EVP and Senior Director, Marketing & Brand Experience, collaborate on key messaging and communication strategies

    Qualifications

    • Minimum three years’ experience in institutional giving (corporate, foundation)
    • Demonstrated success in meeting/exceeding fundraising goals
    • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; fluency in English required
    • Strong project- and time-management skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Facility with Patron Manager or similar CRM software; Microsoft Office suite
    • Availability to be on-site at Snug Harbor as required

    SALARY

    Salary is commensurate with experience, with a range of $35.00-$40.00 per hour. The position is part-time, approximately at 20 hours per week, or up to 85 hours per month on average. The role is available for remote work, although time onsite at Snug Harbor will be required.
