    Schedule: Full-time - Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Hybrid (3 Days, In office/ 2 Days, remote) * subject to changes

    Salary Range: $94,137.00 to $127,429.00/year

    Job Summary:

    As the Assistant Director of Strategic Partnerships, you will play a vital role in developing and executing comprehensive partnership strategies, developments, and initiatives that will drive growth and support the well-being and benefit of our union members and programs. As the Assistant Director of Strategic Partnerships, you will be responsible for cultivating and nurturing strategic relationships with external organizations, businesses, and stakeholders. Your primary goal will be to establish strong partnerships that enhance our ability to achieve organizational objectives and provide value to our members, and the vast majority of your time in at least the first three years in this position will be to implement a new historic partnership between UDW and the California Community Colleges.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

      • Develop and execute a robust partnership strategy that aligns with the union's goals and vision, focusing on the well-being and benefit of our union members.
      • Identify and engage potential partners, building and nurturing relationships that are mutually beneficial and contribute to the successful implementation of our initiatives.
      • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify partnership opportunities that align with our strategic priorities.
      • Leverage networking events, industry conferences, and other relevant platforms to expand the organization's partner network.
      • Lead the negotiation and development of partnership agreements, ensuring they are structured in a way that maximizes value for both parties.
      • Monitor and evaluate the success of partnerships, establishing key performance indicators and tracking progress towards objectives.
      • Stay informed about industry trends, market developments, and best practices in partnership management, and apply this knowledge to improve our approach continuously.
      • Research and identify grant funding opportunities that align with program objectives.
      • Develop and write compelling grant proposals, adhering to grant guidelines and requirements.
      • Manage grant budgets, track expenditures, and ensure compliance with grant regulations.
      • Prepare and submit accurate and timely reports to funders, highlighting program achievements and outcomes.
      • Coordinate and oversee all aspects of assigned programs, ensuring adherence to timelines, deliverables, and budgets.
      • Develop comprehensive program plans, including objectives, strategies, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
      • Monitor program progress, evaluate outcomes, and make adjustments as needed to meet program goals.
      • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including educators, social workers, and organizational management, to ensure effective program management.
      • Act as a brand ambassador, representing the organization at external events, public speaking engagements, conferences, and industry gatherings to promote partnership opportunities.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Develop the skills of staff and member volunteers through training, coaching, and mentoring, fostering professional growth and advancement.
    • Provide guidance and support to ensure staff's compliance with UDW policies and procedures and members’ compliance with the UDW Constitution.
    • Organize workflow and allocate tasks, ensuring that employees understand their duties and responsibilities.
    • Monitor employee productivity and provide constructive feedback and coaching to enhance performance.
    • Receive and address complaints and resolve problems promptly and effectively.
    • Maintain accurate timekeeping and other records pertaining to employee hours, leave, and attendance.
    • Serve as a liaison between upper management and employees, conveying relevant information and feedback.
    • Prepare and submit performance reports, highlighting achievements, areas for improvement, and progress towards goals.
    • Make decisions on rewards and promotional opportunities based on performance evaluations and merit.
    • Collaborate in recruiting new team members, ensuring a diverse, equitable and inclusive work environment.
    • Ensure strict adherence to legal requirements and company policies and procedures, taking appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary.
    • Perform any additional duties as assigned by upper management to support organizational objectives.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Strategic thinking: The ability to think in the big picture and develop comprehensive partnership strategies that align with organizational goals and objectives.
    • Relationship building: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with external stakeholders, such as businesses, organizations, and community leaders.
    • Knowledge of the labor movement and its partners and allied movements.
    • Knowledge of fundraising and development and program management.
    • Experience with either operating and/or partnering closely with 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.
    • Knowledge of Non-profit Programs: Understanding various grant programs, funding sources, and eligibility criteria applicable to program coordination.
    • Research Skills: Proficiency in conducting comprehensive research to identify potential opportunities and gather relevant information for program applications.
    • Grant Writing: Ability to write compelling and persuasive proposals that effectively communicate the organization's mission, goals, and project objectives to secure funding.
    • Budgeting and Financial Management: Knowledge of budgeting principles and experience in developing realistic budgets for program proposals. Ability to manage funds, track expenses, and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
    • Experience with program design and impact of labor and education
    • Understanding and sensitivity to adult learners in various environments such as immigrants, refugees, English language learners, and low wage earners amongst others
    • Demonstrated commitment with the combination of work experience and education
    • Evaluation and Reporting: Familiarity with performance evaluation methodologies and experience in monitoring and assessing program outcomes. Ability to generate reports and complete progress updates for funders.
    • Project Management: Strong organizational and time management skills to plan, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and effectively manage multiple program initiatives simultaneously.
    • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate program goals, objectives, and outcomes. Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and maintain clear and effective communication channels.
    • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and completeness in program applications, budgets, and reports. Ability to review and edit documents for grammar, clarity, and coherence.
    • Adaptability and Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing program requirements, priorities, and timelines. Willingness to learn and apply new techniques and strategies in program coordination.
    • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using computer applications and software related to program management, project management tools, spreadsheet software, and online submission portals relevant to program coordination.
    • Ethical and Professional Conduct: Commitment to maintaining high ethical standards in all aspects of program coordination, including confidentiality, conflict of interest, and compliance with laws and regulations.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, non-profit management, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
    • 5+ years of proven experience in developing and managing strategic partnerships, preferably within the nonprofit sector.
    • Strong business acumen with the ability to understand complex organizational goals and align them with partnership objectives.
    • Exceptional negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
    • Analytical mindset with the ability to conduct market research and evaluate potential partnership opportunities.
    • Demonstrated project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
    • Proactive and entrepreneurial mindset with a track record of driving innovative partnership initiatives.
    • Experience with grant funding, including grant writing, budget management, and compliance.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Experience working in partnership with or for a California community college.
    • Energetic, enthusiastic, and self-motivated
    • Excellent time management and prioritization skills
    • Fluency in Spanish

    Requirements:

    • Ability to work from UDW’s office three days/per week.
    • Some travel is required (about 10-20% a month) with a reliable vehicle.
    • Valid driver's license
