    About Irish Community Services

    Irish Community Services (ICS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the needs of the Irish, Irish American, and wider immigrant communities in Chicago. We offer a range of community programs including immigration services, wellness initiatives, group programming, and short-term crisis support. We are seeking a motivated, experienced professional to join our team and manage diverse community programs that foster engagement and provide essential supports.

    Position Overview

    As the Community Programs Manager, you will lead the development and delivery of programs that enhance the well-being and connectivity of our community members. Collaborating closely with the Group Programs Coordinator, you will play a key role in ensuring the success of our welfare, engagement, and cultural programs. This role is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on individuals and groups within the Irish community.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide short-term case management and referral services to individuals experiencing crises, such as financial hardship, housing difficulties, health challenges, or transitioning back to Ireland.
    • Offer guidance and direct assistance to applicants for Irish passports and Irish citizenship.
    • Create community outreach and wellness campaigns using a blend of media and in-person events.
    • Supervise and support the Group Programs Coordinator, who facilitates activities for both senior and youth community groups.
    • Create initiatives that seek to recognize and include historically overlooked or excluded members of the Irish community.
    • Develop resources and provide direct short-term engagement for students from Ireland on temporary summer work visas in the Chicago area.
    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with community partners, fostering collaboration at individual and organizational levels.
    • Assess community needs and implement programs that address emerging challenges and opportunities.

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Demonstrated connection to or interest in Ireland, Irish culture, or Irish communities (locally or globally).
    • At least two years of experience in community programming, social services, or a related field, ideally with direct work supporting individuals and groups.
    • The ideal candidate will have a formal qualification in social work, community development, or a related field, or significant professional experience in one of these areas.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage in a professional and personable manner with clients, colleagues, community partners, and funders.
    • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
