    Description

    SEIU 925 is a dynamic, growing union of education professionals across Washington. We are looking for Union Organizers who are excited to build power with child care workers of all backgrounds, races, and genders. Does that describe you?

    About us:

    The Service Employees International Union Local 925 (SEIU 925) is 19,000 working people united to improve our jobs and our communities. We are education workers and public sector workers across Washington state. This is an exciting time to be part of the labor movement: baristas, fast food workers, janitors, and now child care workers are standing together and demanding their share of the richest economy in the world.

    Our union believes we can’t have economic justice without racial justice. Applicants should have a passion for justice-based organizing and commitment to the power of organized labor.

    About you:

    Applicants should have a passion for social justice organizing and recognize that child care is a pillar of the economy. We are hiring for multiple positions across the state, with a focus in the greater Puget Sound region. These are full time project positions working with a diverse statewide membership. A driver’s license and a car is required.

    What is the job?

    • Identify and recruit worksite leaders through one to one meeting and worksite mapping
    • Support and coach workers as they move into struggle
    • Ensure that the campaign is moving the interests of child care workers through consistent application of the racial justice lens at all stages of a campaign;
    • As part of a team, assist in developing strategy and tactics for building worker power. Work with team members to develop innovative techniques for organizing in varied ways, including hybrid and remote settings;
    • Plan and implement training of organizing committee leaders;
    • Participate in public policy activity as assigned, such as legislative and political work;
    • Represent the Union in community and labor coalition activities.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Ability to inspire and motivate workers, Member Organizers and staff.
    2. Enthusiastic commitment to the racial justice goals of SEIU
    3. Ability to exercise a high level of judgment, prioritize effectively, and work independently.
    4. Effective oral and written communication skills.
    5. Ability to work well with diverse people and cultures.
    6. Basic computer, database, and remote technology capability required.
    7. Previous union organizing experience strongly preferred.
    8. Bilingual Spanish/English skills strongly desired

    This position will require evening and weekend work. The main SEIU 925 office is in Seattle, but our child care members are statewide, and this position may be asked for short term travel as the campaign requires. A driver’s license, a car and proof of insurance, proof of COVID-19 vaccination, and a passion for organized labor power are required.

    We are an equal opportunity employer and we strongly encourage Black, indigenous, people of color, women, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and others who identify with underrepresented groups to apply.
