    Description

    The Indigenous Leadership Initiative (ILI) is seeking a Social Media Manager to help maintain a strong online presence for the ILI and the Land Needs Guardians campaign, housed within the ILI’s suite of brands. These brands engage audiences and act in service of ILI’s advocacy goals of advancing Indigenous-led conservation and Indigenous Nationhood across North America. They are also essential for building public and political support for the strategic goals of the ILI within the Indigenous-led conservation and stewardship space.

    Under the direction of the Lead Communications Strategist, the Social Media Manager would be responsible for helping grow, maintain, and manage ILI and Land Needs Guardians' social media accounts across multiple platforms. The Social Media Manager will help create social media content, be responsible for day-to-day community management tasks, collaborate with the Lead Communications Strategist on campaign strategy, report regularly on campaign and metric tracking and paid ad performance, and assist as a part of the communications team with daily administrative tasks as they arise.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Maintain social media presence of the ILI and Land Needs Guardians platforms by drafting engaging share text to accompany news, image and video content;
    • Write and post content across platforms under the guidance of the Lead Communications Strategist;
    • Manage ILI and Land Needs Guardians community presence on social media, in regular communication with the Lead Communications Strategist;
    • Identify opportunities for posting, engagement, and content on ILI and Land Needs Guardians social channels;
    • Be responsible for a monthly/yearly editorial calendar (in collaboration with the communications team) to ensure maximum effectiveness on social media and internal collaboration;
    • Measure and report on metrics from across social media and the digital sphere, including web traffic and paid ad campaigns on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis;
    • Work with the Lead Communications Strategist on paid social media strategy and execution;
    • Stay up-to-date with changes in all social platforms, ensuring maximum effectiveness;
    • Check socials, respond to messages, moderate comments, identify any relevant engagements;
    • Help collect relevant news articles and mentions to amplify and share;
    • Support in administering email newsletter management and content management platforms;
    • Work with social media lead to manage contacts in CMS platforms;
    • Maintain campaign photo library, including researching and initiating relationships with photographers and other content creators;
    • Help build an influencer engagement strategy;
    • Upload all new video content to website platforms and assist with updates to website as needed;
    • Maintain YouTube channels and updates as needed;
    • Support the ILI Communications Team needs during events on social media;
    • Complete other administrative and related tasks as requested and agreed to by Lead Communications Strategist and the Communications Director;

    Qualifications:

    • Experience in social media management, communications, advocacy campaigns, or a related field.
    • Demonstrated understanding of social media networks (Facebook, X, Instagram, Youtube, Linkedin, Bluesky, Flickr) and/or web platforms (Squarespace, Wordpress).
    • Some design experience preferred. (Canva)
    • Understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and priorities in Indigenous-led conservation.
    • Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences.
    • Must be organized and detail-oriented.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
