    Greater Boston Legal Services (GBLS) seeks two attorneys with 0 to 7 years of experience, preferred, to join its Housing Unit.

    These two positions are focused on representing tenants in the Metro South Housing Court, located in Canton, MA, where the attorneys will assist low-income tenants living in Quincy, Weymouth, Braintree, Randolph, Milton, Canton, Holbrook, and Cohasset.

    These positions will be based in our Boston office and will require travel by car or public transit to court and other activities in our service area. GBLS is a hybrid workplace, allowing employees to work remotely several days per week.

    Responsibilities: The attorneys will maintain a substantial trial caseload and may also engage in the broader work of the Housing Unit, including: Supporting community organizing and tenants’ associations; advocating on behalf of tenants in public and subsidized housing; assisting tenant organizations in preserving affordable housing; EA Shelter advocacy; participating in legislative and administrative advocacy projects; engaging in impact litigation. If funding for these positions changes, attorneys may be assigned work in other areas of law within the Housing Unit or GBLS.

    Qualifications: Applicants must be admitted to the Massachusetts Bar or eligible for temporary admission under SJC Rule 3:04 at the time of application. Prior housing and/or trial experience is preferred. Attorneys with lived experience of displacement or gentrification are strongly encouraged to apply. Fluency in one or more languages spoken by GBLS clients (e.g., Spanish, Haitian Creole) is a plus.

    Compensation and Benefits: Salary is based on a union scale, starting at $74,000 for attorneys with no experience and up to $84,500 for those with seven years of experience. GBLS offers a generous benefits package, retirement contributions, student loan repayment assistance plan for eligible attorneys, and generous paid time off (PTO).
