    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Governors Island Foundation (GIF) engages a diverse portfolio of corporate partners in the stewardship and enjoyment of Governors Island, including by planning corporate volunteer outings in partnership with the Trust for Governors Island (TGI) Horticulture and Operations teams.

    The Governors Island Foundation seeks a seasonal Corporate Events Associate to assist with planning and coordination of group volunteer events on Governors Island. The Corporate Events Associate position provides an opportunity to gain experience in nonprofit corporate fundraising, program coordination, event planning and execution, communications, relationship management, and administration. The ideal candidate for this position is passionate about public spaces and the value they bring to urban environments, with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

    Responsibilities Include:

    • Assist GIF Corporate and TGI Horticulture and Operations teams in hosting and running group volunteer events, including project planning, setup and cleanup, welcoming groups, facilitating on-Island experience, photographing events, managing any day-of event needs that arise, and post-event metrics reporting.
    • Act as liaison with TGI Horticulture and Operations teams to coordinate group volunteer activities and schedule.
    • Assist GIF and TGI teams with group volunteer program management, including goal setting and tracking, volunteer and impact tracking, and feedback.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for group volunteer teams, including sharing event and transportation details with group leads, responding to questions, and making ferry and operations arrangements.
    • Support GIF Corporate team with execution of corporate membership and sponsorship benefits.
    • Manage corporate group inquiries and tracking system.
    • Assist with maintenance of database records, input information into Salesforce.
    • Interact with group volunteers and park patrons in a professional manner as a representative of Governors Island.
    • Attend and support select Island fundraising and cultivation events and public programs.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in a related area of study preferred.

    Experience:

    • Nonprofit fundraising and/or event management experience though full-time employment, volunteer work, or internships.
    • Experience or interest working in a public park or garden setting.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Ability to lift 25 pounds. Has the stamina to perform physical labor, plus walk five or more miles per day, in all weather conditions, including heat and cold.
    • Ability to work with people at all levels with an open and engaging personality.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication (oral and written), organizational, and problem-solving skills.
      • Exceptional communication and public speaking skills; comfort speaking in front of a crowd.
    • High level of personal accountability, self-organization, autonomy, and discipline.
      • Proactive, with ability to take initiative with complex events.
      • Comfort managing several projects at once.
    • Ability to be flexible and make sound professional judgments.
    • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
    • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs; experience with Salesforce and Flickr preferred.
    • Valid driver's license.

    Salary: $23 per hour

    Location and Schedule: All positions are located on Governors Island. The position is in-person (five-day work week). Applicant must be available to work from April through October.
