    AVP empowers lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ), and HIV-affected communities and allies to end all forms of violence through organizing and education and supports survivors through counseling and advocacy. We were one of the first LGBTQ anti-violence organizations in the country and are a national leader in the anti-violence movement. 

    As the Senior Manager of Development, you will manage and implement AVP’s fundraising programs. You will report to the Director of External Affairs, and you will serve as a seasoned leader to help the organization strengthen its existing relationships with funders and build a larger, more engaged and diverse funding base. You will provide the data and planning to build relationships with corporations, individuals, foundations, and government funders. That means you’ll have your finger on the pulse of our existing donor relationships and work while thinking about helping our portfolios grow.

    What you’ll do:

    Major Gift Fundraising

    • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of major gift prospects to meet and exceed annual fundraising goals.
    • Develop and implement personalized cultivation and solicitation strategies for individual donors, corporations, and foundations.
    • Conduct donor meetings, site visits, and presentations to articulate AVP’s mission, impact, and funding priorities.
    • Prepare compelling proposals, gift agreements, and other donor-related materials, as needed.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of donor interactions and progress in the donor database (i.e., Raiser's Edge).

    Donor Relations and Stewardship

    • Develop and execute effective donor recognition and stewardship plans to build long-term relationships and encourage continued and increased giving.
    • Ensure timely and personalized acknowledgment of gifts.
    • Communicate regularly with donors about the impact of their contributions through reports and other updates.
    • Address donor inquiries and concerns in a professional and timely manner.
    • Collaborate with Executive Director and Director of External Affairs to develop annual Board engagement plans, support Board members in reaching their individual and collective fundraising goals.

    Fundraising Planning

    • Collaborate with the Director of External Affairs and Executive Director to develop and implement annual and long-term fundraising plans aligned with the organization's strategic goals.
    • Contribute to the development of case statements and fundraising priorities.
    • Analyze fundraising results and identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
    • Stay informed about current trends in philanthropy and best practices in fundraising.

    Collaboration and Teamwork

    • Work closely with program staff and leadership to understand organizational needs and develop compelling funding opportunities.
    • Collaborate with marketing and communications staff to create effective fundraising materials and campaigns, draft copy for fundraising emails, letters, and other written materials.
    • Participate in team meetings, strategic planning sessions, and other organizational activities.

    The ideal candidate will have most of the following experience and skills:

    • At least 4 years of experience as a frontline fundraiser in the nonprofit sector.
    • Proficiently utilized a donor database (ideally Raiser's Edge) for tasks such as donor segmentation, reporting, campaign tracking, and relationship management to enhance fundraising outcomes.
    • Sound judgement to know when to seek and receive support from the Director of External Affairs.
    • You are intrinsically motivated and undaunted by ambitious goals. When you see a problem, you are also coming up with a couple potential solutions to try out.
    • You are ready to pitch in and can think on your feet to reprioritize quickly to make sure we meet our goals –whether it’s a smooth event, urgent request from a Board member, or a last-minute proposal.

    SALARY & BENEFITS

    Salary: This is a full-time position (32 hours/week) with a starting salary of $80,000 to $85,000. Multilingual applicants who use more than one language at work are eligible for an additional $1,500 salary enhancement.

    Hours and location: 32-hour work week, hours are generally 10am – 6pm, Monday through Thursday and 10-2pm on Friday. This position may require some work during the evening and/or weekend to support AVP programming. This position is remote forward, without dedicated office space for the role. There is accessible office storage for any development materials and an option to work out of AVP’s office on occasion. The successful candidate will be able to represent AVP at in-person meetings with colleagues, donors, and funders at events in the New York City metro area with notice of 2-5 business days.

    AVP is a unionized workplace: Members of the bargaining unit are represented by the Office Professional Employees International Union Local 153. This Senior Manager of Development role is part of our staff bargaining unit, and employment in this position requires membership in the staff union.
