    SUMMARY: Parent Voices California is excited to expand to Los Angeles County. The LA

    Organizing Team would build a base consisting of parents of children who rely on or need

    subsidized child care. The Team will also cultivate a supportive, asset-based community, focused

    on building power to transform systems that impact parents of young children. The Organizer

    and Organizing Fellows would join the Parent Voices Organizing team, which currently consists

    of our Organizing Director, 3 Community Organizers, and 2 part-time Organizers. We view our

    members as simultaneously occupying the roles of students and teachers. Membership meetings

    serve as a space to provide our parents with education and skill-building. Meetings are also for

    members to share their collective experiences and wisdom with the rest of the group. Parent

    members in Los Angeles County would become part of Parent Voices California, with access to

    monthly popular education workshops, our Immigration, CalWORKS, and Survivors of

    Domestic Violence Committees.

    ABOUT PARENT VOICES: Parent Voices California, a 29-year old organization fiscally

    sponsored by Community Partners, is a chapter-based grassroots organizing effort which strives

    to create a just and caring society that centers the needs of Black, Indigenous, and Brown

    mothers and ensures that all children, parents, and caregivers journey through life with dignity

    and love. Through grassroots organizing and leadership development, we activate and center the

    wisdom of parents to transform child care and ensure all systems that impact our families are

    POSITION AVAILABLE:

    • Los Angeles Senior Community Organizer
    • Temporary Full-time/Non-Exempt
    • $68,500 - 84,000 depending on experience

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Identify best local strategies for reaching and recruiting parents to join Parent Voices and lead recruitment and outreach efforts in LA County, beginning in the northern regions of Los Angeles County
    • With the guidance of Parent Voices’ Organizing Director, build a base of parents who rely or need subsidized child care in these regions of LA County
    • Work with the Organizing Director to incorporate parents from the LA region into the organization’s statewide curriculum and political education/leadership development programming
    • Oversee leadership development in the region, developing and conducting skills building and political education sessions, and providing feedback to parent volunteer organizers
    • Develop, execute, and evaluate effective outreach and recruitment strategies for the target constituency
    • Identify and hire two Organizing Fellows and equip them with proper training, materials, and skills to meet the outreach and recruitment goals and to enroll parents in leadership development offerings
    • Maintain regular contact with a core group of parent leaders through group calls and one-on-one leadership development check-ins and track their participation in leadership development activities
    • Track and document member data and involvement, maintain accurate data collection systems to capture results of canvassing efforts, phone banks, and event attendance
    • Represent Parent Voices in local, regional, and statewide coalitions and build relationships with key partners, allies, and elected officials
    • Coordinate and support parent leader delegations to key decision-makers and public forums
    • Supervise organizers, interns and volunteers and develop and guide individual and community organizing work plans through regular weekly check-ins

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Belief in racial, gender and economic justice work that builds community power
    • Work effectively and efficiently alone and within teams: self-starter and self-directed while committed to communication and collaboration
    • Ability to work with many groups and individuals, such as parents, community-based organizations, and government staff
    • Strong speaking skills and competent writing skills
    • Flexible in time and mind: there will be evening commitments and work required during the weekend including travel throughout CA
    • Organized and detail oriented; able to maintain records; standard computer skills
    • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work accordingly
    • You have roots in the region and are familiar with the diverse needs of BIPOC parents in the region.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 3+ years of membership-based organizing, as a paid or volunteer organizer in a grassroots organization where recruitment and base building is the focus, who is ready to lead at a community level.
    • Experience running budget, legislative, or electoral campaigns and leading a team of organizers in a senior or lead organizing role.
    • Experience conducting one-on-one conversations with an aim of recruitment and leadership development
    • Knowledge of child care systems and/or other social service programs preferred
    • Bilingual (Spanish) with excellent oral and written communication skills preferred
    • Ability to authentically engage diverse communities and build strong teams of economically, ethnically, and linguistically diverse populations of parents
    • A demonstrated ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks
    • Proficient in utilizing member databases and outreach tools such as Every Action or other online platforms.
