    Description

    Position Summary

    Reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Affairs, High School & Non-Degree Programs, the incumbent performs a variety of tasks to support the Pre-College Programs at the School of Professional Studies. The Program & Residential Life Assistant will serve as a live-in Resident Advisor to students enrolled in the Summer Program for High School Students. Additionally, the employee will work in a Program Assistant role with responsibilities geared toward program administration, student life, or community engagement.

    Responsibilities

    RESIDENT ADVISOR

    • Serve as a Residential Advisor to approximately 10 high school students.
    • Oversee and uphold strict adherence to the program’s Behavioral Standards agreement and report any instances in which a student was found to be violating said policy.
    • Enforce the program’s dormitory etiquette policy which includes executing nightly check-ins with assigned residents. Report student tardiness, disruptive behavior, and care concerns to program management.
    • Work to ensure that students are effectively and responsibly engaging with their coursework and community life.
    • Research, plan, and lead cultural excursions to destinations in and around New York City on evenings and weekends and supervise attending students.
    • Maintain an active cell phone and remain on-call for the duration of the practicum – with the exception of designated time off.

    GENERAL

    • Attend and actively engage in a mandatory two-week training seminar prior to the start of the program.
    • Act as a model of proper behavior and attitude for the students of the program, a responsibility that extends to all instances in which the incumbent is acting in an official capacity or interacting with community members.
    • Engage seriously in the program and seek to make a contribution that furthers the goal of building community among the interns, staff, and high school students.

    PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED OR REQUESTED

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School diploma or High School equivalency diploma
    • Must have completed at least one academic year of study at an American college or university by the start of the internship.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Proven ability to work effectively within a collaborative team setting.
    • Ability to work independently on multiple work streams.
    • Ability to handle confidential information in a mature, professional manner.

    Other Requirements

    • Must undergo a mandatory background check – employment contingent upon results.
    • Must live on-campus in program-provided housing for the duration of employment.
    • This position includes significant evening and weekend hours
