    Description

    Overview:

    Refugee Congress is seeking a creative and motivated Communications Intern with a strong focus on social media management and communications support. This role involves developing and managing content across multiple platforms, monitoring engagement, and ensuring messaging aligns with the organization’s mission and values. The intern will also assist with maintaining websites and tracking media mentions, contributing to the overall effectiveness of Refugee Congress’s communications and advocacy efforts. This position offers an opportunity to gain practical experience in nonprofit communications while supporting meaningful advocacy work.

    Responsibilities:

    Social Media Management and Content Creation

    • Assist in posting, managing, and reporting analytics for Refugee Congress and Refugee Advocacy Lab social media accounts across platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, X/BlueSky).
    • Ensure all content is engaging, accurate, and aligns with the organizational brand voice.
    • Monitor engagement across platforms and manage direct messages and comments.
    • Develop a content calendar and schedule posts to maintain consistent and strategic communication.
    • Analyze social media performance metrics and provide actionable insights for improvement.

    Website Maintenance and Support

    • Help maintain and update Refugee Congress and Refugee Storytellers Collective websites to ensure content is accurate and current.
    • Assist in uploading new content, troubleshooting issues, and improving user experience.

    Miscellaneous Communications Support

    • Assist with tracking and documenting member activities, events, media appearances, and web mentions.
    • Provide support for other communications-related tasks as needed, ensuring smooth operations and coordination within the team.

    Qualifications:

    • Strong writing and communication skills with attention to detail.
    • Proficiency in social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, BlueSky) and experience in managing accounts.
    • Familiarity with content management systems (e.g., Squarespace, Hootsuite, Sprout, Buffer) is a plus.
    • Ability to analyze performance data and provide insights.
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
    • Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite) is a bonus.

    Education Requirements:

    • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
    • Relevant coursework or experience in social media management or digital marketing is preferred.
    • Equivalent practical experience in communications or social media management may substitute formal education.
