    SUMMARY

    USA for UNHCR, a certified Great Place to Work non-profit organization headquartered in Washington, DC, is excited to announce its annual Internship Program for Summer 2025. USA for UNHCR’s vision is “A world where every person forced to flee can build a better future.” and its mission is to protect and support refugees by mobilizing resources, elevating awareness, and driving action through a network of engaged supporters.

    The Stewardship team seeks a highly motivated individual to serve as an intern, primarily providing support to the Supporter Relations staff. This paid internship will provide excellent opportunities for contributing to USA for UNHCR’s mission and vision. The internship is open to undergraduate students who are in the process of completing any bachelor's degree or equivalent coursework and wish to gain exposure to administration and operations of humanitarian fundraising. The internship is an in-person 10-week assignment. The intern will be expected to work with the Stewardship team, primarily Supporter Relations staff, and participate in various programmatic team activities.     This paid internship runs from June 2, 2025, to August 8, 2025. The position is hybrid, requiring in-office work on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and remote work on Monday and Friday. The intern must be available for the entire 10-week duration. The internship is based at our office in Washington, DC. Room and board are not included.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Supporter Communications and Stewardship

    • Answer inbound donor and supporter phone calls, taking prompt and appropriate action with each caller and quickly alleviating concerns and anxieties.
    • Assist callers in making donations, updating gift/payment information, answering questions and addressing concerns in a highly personalized, personable and empathetic way.
    • Prioritize donor retention by offering alternative options to cancellation requests.
    • Exercise sound judgement and adherence to protocol to escalate phone calls when appropriate.
    • Provide accurate and concise call notes, effectively summarizing donor status, purpose of the call and ultimate resolution for each call.
    • Recognize and maximize opportunities to deepen conversations with donors by asking follow-up questions and engaging in conversation toward greater understanding of callers’ anxieties, frustrations, inspirations and motivations.
    • Follow-up with donors within 48-72 hours when immediate solution cannot be provided.
    • Maintain confidentiality and compliance in working with sensitive donor data at all times.
    • Support other administrative tasks and development operations projects as assigned.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    • 0-2 years of relevant experience
    • Ability to be a quick and eager learner
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word
    • Ability to quickly learn new software and database programs
    • Demonstrates passion; the willingness to go the extra mile and stellar customer service
    • Well organized, and proven ability to multi-task and manage their time
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Demonstrates passion for USA for UNHCR’s mission
    • Be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and gathers and analyzes information skillfully
    • Have high energy, clear goal orientation and strong work ethic.

    • Have strong organizational skills.

    COMPENSATION

    $18 per hour
