    Hours Per Week:Spring and summer start dates available. Start date is flexible; no later than April 21st for Spring and June 2nd for Summer. 10-20 hours a week. Available to work at least two weekdays required. Schedule can vary based on individual’s schedule.

    About the Pike Place Place Market Foundation's Food Access Program: The Food Access Program, administered by the Foundation’s neighborhood center The Market Commons, aims to support food security for all Pike Place Market community members and help create equitable access to the nutritious, quality foods offered at Pike Place Market.

    About the Position: The Food Access intern will be responsible for assisting with a variety of programs and engaging with activities such as community gardening, subsidized shopping programs, and other food distribution programs. This seasonal position offers meaningful experience with community food access and hands-on gardening from seed to harvest. We also approach this internship as a collaborative process and are willing to provide experience in areas of interest to meet course requirements and/or career goals.     Possible Responsibilities:

    • Assist with daily gardening tasks including watering, weeding, planting, and harvesting. Coordinate tasks with community garden volunteers and Food Bank staff.
    • Collaborate with staff on planning, tracking, and administering food access shopping programs at The Market Commons and Remote Farmers Markets.
    • Assist with food distribution to Food Access Program clients through the Pike Place Market CSA, the Pike Place Market Food Bank, and the Market Commons.
    • Opportunity to contribute to The Market Commons’ ongoing community programs and activities.
    • Specific duties will be determined by schedule and organizational needs.

    Preferred Skills:

    • Willingness to work outside in varying weather conditions
    • Exemplary interpersonal skills (or willingness to develop client-facing communication skills)
    • Experience or interest in working with diverse communities of all backgrounds and ages
    • Interest in local food systems, food access, and community gardening

    Benefits

    Fixed stipend and additional transportation stipend in the form of an Orca Card. The Market Commons is also willing to facilitate any paperwork necessary to satisfy graduation requirements.
