    SHOFCO Development Intern Job Description

    About SHOFCO

SHOFCO is a leading, internationally recognized, community-based organization mobilizing the largest network of social groups in Kenya to provide holistic, needs-driven services and redefine the potential of citizen-led change. Our mission is to unleash the inherent power, dignity, and hope of communities in informal settlements — creating opportunities for them to thrive. We partner across the public, private, and social sectors to deliver best-in-class services ranging from health and education to economic and social empowerment programs.

    Position Description

SHOFCO is seeking a Development Intern to work with our Advancement Team. Interns will provide a wide range of database, research, and general administrative support to the team. Interns will acquire practical experience at a small, award-winning nonprofit by working closely with global staff members on projects and assisting in daily operational duties. This is a hybrid position based in New York, NY, reporting to the Development Associate.

    Job Responsibilities and Opportunities include:
    • Support with new and existing donor research and outreach.
    • Participate in grant prospecting and reporting.
    • Support in planning and logistics for high profile fundraising events.
    • Research digital asset management (DAM) and turnkey website solutions and support in the implementation process.
    • Gain familiarity with a customer relationship management (CRM) database and support in data entry.
    • Gain experience in and familiarity with philanthropy, international development, communications, and the daily operations of an international nonprofit organization.
    • Administrative support, as needed, in the NYC office.
    Hours, Location, and Duration
    • Hours are flexible within traditional business hours (9:00am to 5:00pm) but a firm commitment of 10-15 hours per week is required.
    • The internship takes place for approximately 10 weeks and will start on a mutually agreed upon date.
    • For in-office days (schedule to be mutually agreed upon) intern will report to SHOFCO’s lower Manhattan office.
    • Intern will not need to provide their own computer.
    Compensation
    • A $1,000 stipend will be provided.
