    Description

    Ghana is a country filled with interesting events, a rich local history and plenty of photography opportunities. Experience all of this as you work for a local newspaper, television station or radio station. This is a great way for prospective journalists to learn about the field and gain valuable experience in the growth of journalism.

    Ghana has an interesting political landscape that is full of stories just waiting to be written. Our journalism internship will guide you in learning the mechanics of print publication and allow you the opportunity to advance your portfolio. Our media placements in radio and television give you the chance to learn about broadcasting and production which can be used on your CV or resume. This will give you an invaluable boost in a competitive industry.

    All of our interns will be placed with in leading organisations that are well-known in the field of journalism. While the workload is demanding, this experience will be incredibly rewarding in the end. NOTE: In order to get the most out of your internship position in Ghana, OGVO requires you to complete a 2-week language and culture engagement program. This program will provide you with an essential, comprehensive start in investigating the everyday matters of Ghana and ensure language difficulties do not obstruct your work and the learning process.

    Volunteer Duties:

    • Writing news stories and featured articles • Editing colleagues' work for publication • Researching story leads and conducting interviews in the field • Reading news on the air • Producing important segments and writing copy for broadcast • Attending press conferences • Covering news conferences and human interest stories • Proofreading stories and attending events

    How to Apply

    You must be 18 years or over at the start of the program. For these who are 15 – 18 years old, we will need to receive consent from your parents via email or telephone before we can offer you a placement on one of our programs.

    You must be able to speak English.

    You must at least have a high school education if you want to perform formal teaching activities to the local communities.

    Medical placement volunteers must have relevant medical training and certification (to be presented on arrival in Ghana).

    Once you’re ready, this is how the planning process goes:

    2. Once you’re sure of your plans, secure your spot by paying the deposit fee of US$200.
    3. Your OGVO Program Coordinator will help you prepare for your trip.
