    Description

    OrigamiUSA is a non-profit Arts and Education organization housed in the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) located on the Upper West Side of New York City. The OrigamiUSA Convention Committee is looking for a convention Intern to work a minimum of 15 hours a week in our office at the AMNH. We are flexible regarding start/end dates, number of hours and specific hours worked. Some weekend/evening hours possible. Working during the Convention full time is required (July 17 - 22, 2025) at the Convention venue, the Times Square Sheraton Hotel at 811 Seventh Avenue, New York, NY 10019.

    Responsibilities:

    The Intern will work closely with our administrator and the Convention Committee and get an in-depth view of the operations behind running our large convention (over 400 people). This is an opportunity for someone interested in entering the field of event planning or looking for experience in office administration.

    Tasks include:

    • Assisting with convention registration preparations (e.g. name badge preparation)
    • Organizing convention items: T-shirts, bags, pens, etc.
    • Performing administrative tasks such as making copies, picking up mail, and answering the phone.
    • Organizing our storage area in preparation for the move from our office to the Convention site.
    • Utilizing the Internet for research as needed.
    • Attending convention and supporting on-site staff.

    Requirements for this position:

    • Confident phone voice (calling attendees, members, volunteers, stores, vendors).
    • Responsible, punctual, committed to getting the job done.
    • Able to follow instructions and feel comfortable offering suggestions for assigned tasks.
    • Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Able to lift and move large (and potentially heavy) boxes (as needed).
    • Able to work in a busy environment.
    • Some office and administrative experience appreciated.
    • No origami experience required.

    Job Type: Part Time, 100% in person (not remote).

    Start Date: May 19, 2025

    End Date: July 22, 2025

    Wage: $20/hour

    Hours: minimum 15 hours per week, flexible schedule, will be closer to full time as we approach the Convention dates.
