    Description

    Ada Developers Academy (Ada) is a non-profit, tuition-free coding school for women and gender expansive adults. We primarily serve and address the needs of Black, Latine, Indigenous Americans, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander, LGBTQIA+, and low-income communities. Our program consists of two highly immersive parts: six months of focused instruction, and five months of internship at partner companies, where students refine their skills working on real-world code.

    About this position

    We are seeking a strategic, mission-driven Senior Director of Finance to join our leadership team at Ada Developers Academy and manage the financial operations of our organization. Reporting to the CEO, the Senior Director will provide strategic guidance and partner with leadership to develop and implement short- and long-term financial plans. As a hands-on and highly collaborative leadership role, the Senior Director will also direct and perform the daily operations of Ada’s accounting and finance functions, and supervise the work of the Accountant.

    This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position with an annual salary range of $145,000 to $160,000 (DOQ) and excellent benefits. For eligible positions, remote work schedules are made available to workers working within certain states, currently limited to: Washington, Oregon, Georgia, Massachusetts, Texas, DC, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.

    Core responsibilities

    Financial Management & Strategy

    • Lead all aspects of financial oversight, including planning, budgeting, forecasting, analysis, reporting, and compliance.
    • Collaborate with the CEO and leadership team to develop and implement organizational financial strategies, cash flow forecasting, and resource allocation.
    • Develop and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the organization.
    • Collaborate with the leadership team to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and to establish financial systems to support program operations.
    • Ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; partner with the Development team to collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.
    • Partner with the Corporate Partnerships team to oversee the invoice and payment process with corporate partners.
    • Regularly analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; complete monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep leadership abreast of Ada’s financial status.
    • Oversee the coordination and activities of independent auditors; ensure all audit recommendations are resolved.
    • Monitor banking and investment activities of the organization.
    • Advise the CEO and other members of Ada’s leadership team on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, and financial policy matters; help steward the Finance Committee with the Board Treasurer and present about critical financial matters at select Board of Director’s meetings.
    • Oversee completion of tax filings with IRS and State agencies.
    • Ensure organizational adherence with all relevant federal and state laws, GAAP principles, and internal controls.

    Accounting Operations

    • Supervise, develop and train staff/contractor performing accounting functions, including accounts payable (in BILL), accounts receivable, and other accounting tasks.
    • Execute month-end close, including journal entries (in QuickBooks) and account reconciliations.
    • Prepare and analyze regular financial statements.
    • Complete bimonthly payroll.
    • Manage state and payroll taxes; maintain accurate tax settings in payroll system (in Rippling).
    • Manage company credit cards in Ramp.
    • Collaborate with the Director of People Operations for benefits administration and 403(b) retirement administration.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Essential qualifications

    • Enthusiastic support of Ada’s mission and demonstrated embodiment of Ada’s values.
    • Minimum 7-10 years relevant experience in finance and accounting, with at least 3 years in a strategic leadership role.
    • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field, or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
    • Strong understanding of nonprofit financial operations, including restricted funds and functional expenses.
    • Proficiency with MS Excel/Google Sheets and Quickbooks.
    • Strategic thinker with the ability to balance long-term vision and short-term operational needs.
    • Ability to translate complex financial analyses into clear, actionable recommendations.
    • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
    • High attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy.
    • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
