    Position summary

    The communications manager serves on the enterprise communications team, which is has two core functions 1) working with leadership to set goals, track our progress and report on results, with a focus on learning and growth and 2) supporting grant development, management and reporting. The communications manager will support these core functions under the guidance of the associate director and the vice president of communications.

    The communications manager's key responsibilities include : 1) working with colleagues to ensure effective and smooth collaboration for partnerships and 2 ) preparing reports for funders or partners. They have experience with strategic communications and donor relations. They are an excellent project manager who can complete projects with minimal supervision. They have strong writing and editing skills . They are capable at analyzing and summarizing quantitative and qualitative metrics. They build strong relationships, get the details right, think strategically and roll up their sleeves to get the job done.

    Primary responsibilities

    Funder/ donor relations coordination and project management

    • Liaise with fundraising and communications colleagues to support fundraising and donor relations.
    • Update communications and research colleagues on partnership activities and opportunities.
    • I dentify opportunities to incorporate prospects outreach into Center communication s activities .
    • Contribute to grant proposals and agreements, consulting with communications team colleagues.
    • Document and track grant deadlines, deliverables and requirements for current donors.
    • Brief communications and research colleagues on grant requirements, working together to ensure effective and smooth collaboration for partnerships.
    • Monitor press mentions of key partners and advise communications leadership on reputation management.

    Grant reporting

    • Work with fundraising , communications and research colleagues to prepare reports for funder or partner organizations.
    • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data to highlight the impact of our work.
    • Write and edit narrative grant reports.
    • P roject manage grant reports, ensuring all necessary internal stakeholder are consulted and that reports are accurate , thorough and completed on deadline.

    Education/training/ experience requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, fundraising/ development or related field.
    • 5-10 years of relevant experienc e in communications , fundraising or donor relations. (Candidates with more than 10 years of experience may be considered for the senior communications manager level.)
    • Experience in a national or international non profit, foundation or think tank environment preferred.

    Knowledge and skills requirements

    • Knowledge of communications strategic planning , fundraising or development , and internal communications best practices.
    • Excellent project management skills. Project management certification a plus.
    • Exceptional verbal communication and writing skills .
    • A ble to work in a team, and across functions, under deadline with diplomacy and poise .
    • C reative and strategic thinker.
    • H ighly organized, detail- oriented and able to juggle multiple projects.
    • Experience writing grant proposals, agreements and reports .
    • Knowledge of project management systems (such as Asana) , media management tools (such as Meltwater) , and analytics tools (such as Parse.ly) .
    • Familiarity with tracking and analyzing quantitative and qualitative metrics data.

    FLSA status:

    Exempt The typical starting salary for this position is $90,000

    Location

    Pew Research Center staff are required to be present in the Center's Washington, D.C., office two core days weekly (Tuesday, Wednesday). Staff may work virtually from remote locations on other days in a typical work week.
