Position Description
Sakhi for South Asian Survivors exists to represent the South Asian and Indo-Caribbean diaspora living in America in a survivor-led movement for gender-justice by providing culturally competent direct services such as a helpline, counseling, advocacy, housing assistance, economic empowerment, food justice, elder abuse intervention, and youth programs that honor the collective and inherent power of all survivors of violence.

The Intake Specialist will respond to Sakhi’s helpline calls between 2:00 - 5:00 PM, Monday through Thursday. These hours are subject to change based on the need/expansion of the helpline hours. They will be responsible for maintaining accurate documentation and summary for all the calls. This position reports to the Helpline and Volunteer Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct basic intake and assessment for all callers through a trauma-informed lens
Enter intake data ensuring accuracy and completeness of records
Maintain records of Helpline calls through Salesforce
Screen for potential crises and initiate crisis intervention protocol as needed, such as to address suicidality or child abuse/neglect
When necessary, provide crisis intervention and help formulate a safety plan for the next 12-24 hours
Collaborate with the AVP team to triage new cases, presenting issues, and other factors impacting callers
Any special projects and/or other duties as assigned
Refer clients internally to other departments within Sakhi, as well as externally when appropriate
Qualifications
Candidates must be over 18 and authorized to work in the United States. Sakhi will not sponsor for a work visa.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Must embrace Sakhi’s mission of eradicating gender-based violence and be able to articulate Sakhi’s role within its community
Have experience working on a crisis helpline or in the nonprofit sector
Must be familiar with and demonstrate competency in effective assessment techniques
Fluency in one or more South Asian languages, especially Bengali, Hindi and/or Urdu,
2 years of experience in gender based violence work
Experience with using Salesforce
Be open to working independently and be a “self-starter”
Be organized and exhibit follow through on tasks and goals.
Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense and good listening ability
Be organized and detail oriented, with strong writing and communication skills
This is a part time position for 12 hours weekly with a teleworking schedule. Salary is $25.00 per hour.
