    Description

    The Urban League is seeking a dedicated and creative team member to join our award-winning Financial Empowerment and Homeownership Education team. As a member of the Urban League team, you will be joining an organization with a local and national legacy as one of the most impactful community development and civil rights organizations in the nation. This Program Coordinator will provide one-on-one coaching and group classes to help individuals and families achieve their financial empowerment and homeownership goals. The Program Coordinator will also be part of the National Urban League's highly esteemed network of homebuyer education counselors.

    ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

    The Urban League of Greater Madison is part of the nation's oldest and largest community-based movement dedicated to ensuring that African Americans and other community members are empowered to live well, advance professionally and contribute to the common good in the 21st Century.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Recruitment:

    • Recruit low- and moderate-income individuals and families seeking to become homeowners.
    • Ensure targeted outreach to under-served populations, particularly African Americans.
    • Create a plan for marketing and promoting the program and update plan as needed.
    • Establish and maintain relationships with referral sources including: public agencies, public housing, churches and other community- and faith-based organizations, realtors, other ULGM programs, and others who may refer prospective homebuyers.

    Training & Counseling:

    • Develop HUD-approved training curricula for group classes focused on financial empowerment, homebuyer readiness for aspiring homebuyers, and homeownership education for first-time homeowners.
    • Lead engaging and interactive workshop for diverse audiences covering topics such as budgeting, credit management, debt reduction, and savings strategies to help individuals and families improve their financial health and prepare for homeownership.
    • Ensure programming incorporates diverse instructional methods to accommodate different learning styles.
    • Provide personalized, one-on-one counseling and resource referrals to support the needs of individuals and families looking to improve their financial health and prepare for homeownership.
    • Collaborate with internal and external partners and subject matter experts to identify and incorporate additional resources, tools, and guest speakers into training programs.
    • Ensure training materials are accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with HUD regulations for Pre-Purchase and Post-Purchase homeownership education classes.
    • Stay informed about local resources that can further support participants' housing and financial needs.
    • Maintain accurate records of training attendance, participant feedback, and outcomes and compile data for reporting purposes.

    All employees are expected to participate in Urban League’s community engagement and civic outreach activities as well as other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Minimum of 1 year of prior paid experience providing home ownership counseling, financial capability training, and/or mortgage lending.
    • Prefer HUD Housing Counselor Certification or must obtain within 90 days of hire.
    • Knowledge of the CounselorMax client management system is a plus.
    • Strong commitment to the mission of the Urban League of Greater Madison and to working with individuals from diverse racial/cultural backgrounds.
    • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
    • Ability to work with clients who may be in difficult situations.
    • Ability to help individuals create household budgets and offer money management solutions.
    • Experience in pulling and analyzing credit reports.
    • Knowledge of homebuyer education programs, credit counseling and case management and HUD housing rules and regulations.
    • Knowledge of the homebuying process and related community resources, service delivery networks and affordable housing programs and services.
    • Detail oriented, highly organized, and able to meet goals within established timelines.
    • Ability to compile data and prepare various monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
    • Computer skills including MS Windows, Office 365, e-mail, and internet.

    COMPENSATION:

    The base annual starting salary for the position is between $45,000 and $47,500 depending on experience. Candidates who possess an active HUD Homebuyer Training/Counseling Certification may be eligible for an additional $2,500 in base pay.     Work Hours: General office hours are Mondays-Fridays from 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM. Evening and weekend hours will be required for various classes, workshops, and special events including Urban League community engagement and civic outreach initiatives.
