    Assistant Deputy Supervisor for Wildland Fire Management

    Salary: $127,776.00 - $149,028.00 Annually

    To allow for growth and salary progression the full salary range is: $127,776.00 - $156,864.00 Annually

    This position is a member of the Senior Leadership Team and reports directly to the Deputy Supervisor for Wildland Fire Management. The functional areas include: Intradepartmental coordination and overseeing the development and implementation of policy and initiatives related to administration functions such as One Washington Initiative, IT Steering Committee, etc.

    Responsibilities:

    • Hires, leads, and coaches direct reports.
    • Ensures that all federal, state, and agency laws, rules, policies, and requirements that control these areas are fully met; conducts audits and reviews to ensure compliance.
    • Builds and maintains strong working relationships with external stakeholders, executive management, wildland fire management division, regions, districts, and the Office of the Attorney General.
    • Ensures that all staff work is completed according to expectations and deadlines established by the Commissioner and the Deputy Supervisor of Wildland Fire Management.
    • Models and actively promotes the concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion and ensures that the position's command is a safe and respectful workplace, meaning that all staff are treated fairly and respectfully and that the workplace is free from any forms of harassment, bullying, and disrespectful behavior.
    • Continually strives to promote efficiency in the use of state resources and improve work processes and outcomes.
    • Builds and maintains strong working relationships between operational programs.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Experience in strategic leadership, precise communication, effective negotiation, and persuasive advocacy.
    • Experience encouraging innovative best business practices.
    • Substantive experience in mediating issues between executive management and Forest Resilience, Regulation, and Aquatic Division staff.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the Washington State Legislative processes.
    • Experience-based ability to create a positive work environment, build morale, and elicit sustained superior job performance.
    • Proven ability to develop staff skills by effectively coaching, mentoring, and training.
    • Strong commitment to ethical leadership and the goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    • Bachelor's Degree in a Natural Resource Related Field.
    • 10 years of Supervisory experience.
    • Commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.
