    The Presidio Trust is seeking a Park Guide Lead who will support the Visitor Services Team. The Presidio Trust is an innovative federal agency that stewards and shares the history, beauty, and wonder of the Presidio for everyone to enjoy forever. The ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone, the Presidio was once a military post under three flags. Today, it is a surprising national park site spanning 1,500 acres at the Golden Gate.     Reporting to the Park Guide Supervisor, the Park Guide Lead support the Park Guide Supervisor by helping to build and maintain a strong team. They help ensure that work assigned to the team is carried out, resolve problems, mediate conflicts with staff, help determine appropriate solutions, and promote teamwork. They identify safety issues and maintain a safe and healthy work environment. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in customer service, youth development & engagement, cultural competencies, inclusivity, adaptability/flexibility, and clear communication. This role also welcomes, orients, and engages visitors of all ages and backgrounds to the Tunnel Tops and Presidio. Leads support meaningful park adventures and provide a positive and informative visitor experience, especially for those who may experience barriers to access. As an initial point of contact at key visitor destinations, the position spends nearly 100% of their work time in a public-facing capacity, working both indoors and outdoors. The primary audiences are youth, families, community-based organizations, partner organizations, and school groups.

    This is a full-time position with benefits and a starting at $29.29 per hour, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings for special programs and events (weekends are a requirement for this position). This position is included in a bargaining unit, specifically the Laborer’s International Union of North America, Local 792, United Public Employees of California.     Responsibilities

    • Facilities Management: Provide direct support for Presidio Tunnel Tops including opening and closing the Field Station, Outpost, and other Tunnel Tops locations. Coordinate maintenance and repairs. Replenish materials and supplies, clean and maintain the upkeep of these facilities.
    • Daily Site Leader: Serve in this rotating function at least 2 days per week, serving as a single point-of-contact for unresolved visitor or operational issues as they arise – actively monitoring and roving the Tunnel Tops site to ensure smooth operations and public safety; requesting response from other Trust departments or authorities; handling elevated customer service issues; and addressing other concerns as needed.
    • Lead Responsibilities: Participate in the development of staffing schedules and evaluate the distribution of workloads to ensure adequate coverage. Help train employees in the day-to-day procedures and operations of Tunnel Tops facilities. ­Support and coordinate field trip scheduling for youth groups for the Field Station and Outpost.
    • Customer Service: Model an exceptional customer service-oriented approach when interacting with the public that is consistent, professional, friendly, helpful, and informative.
    • Engagement: Support Outpost and Field Station self-guided experiences and staffed interactive activities. Staff various exhibit spaces, modeling participation, inviting play, and asking open-ended questions. Support a variety of visitor engagement activities including community events and programs.
    • Collaboration: Work with, support, and help mentor young people employed through the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy (the Trust’s non-profit partner) Adventure Guide program. The Adventure Guides will be play-leaders in the Outpost and Field Station, focused on engaging youth in the place-based experiences offered at these locations. They will work closely with and alongside the Park Guide Team.
    • Volunteers: Provide guidance and support for the Tunnel Tops volunteers.
    • Events and Programs: Assist visitors with picnic reservations. Support a variety of visitor engagement activities including community events and programs.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    • High School diploma.
    • Minimum of three (3) years of customer service and/or program experience or interacting with the public including children and youth, preferably in a park or cultural institution, school, community-based organization, or other public facing organization.
    • Experience developing, curating, and interpreting public programs and exhibits.
    • Experience providing leadership to implement organization goals and objectives. Ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships. Have a strong sense of responsibility and team spirit, and highly skilled at problem solving.
    • Knowledge and experience working with communities historically underrepresented in national parks including BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color), low-income and working-class, and/or accessibility communities. Able to communicate effectively and have positive interactions with people from various backgrounds and cultures. Comfortable speaking in front of large and small groups of visitors.
    • Must be creative, energetic, curious, self-motivated and passionate about sharing a love of nature, parks and outdoor experiences. Skilled at taking initiative and recognizing what needs to be done. Ability to be flexible and multi-task effectively.
    • Strong interpersonal skills. Able to work independently with sound judgement and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability to manage and diffuse difficult situations.
    • Willing to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings for special programs and events (weekends are a requirement for this position).
    • Must be comfortable working indoors and outdoors in all types of weather.?
    • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and database tracking systems.
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. short distances; stretch, grasp, kneel, twist, reach and bend.

    Desired Qualifications

    • A.A. degree from an accredited college in parks and recreation management, communication, education, tourism, or other related discipline.
    • Bi-lingual in Cantonese, Mandarin, or Spanish
    • CPR and First Aid
