    Description

    The Dallas County Parks and Open Space Program is made up of 21 nature preserves on over 4,000 acres of public land. Learn more about the Program at www.dallascounty.org/parks. Park Ranger job duties include:

    • Patrols trails and preserves, assists visitors, and documents conditions on over 4,000 acres of County preserve property. Acts as an ambassador for the Dallas County Parks and Open Space Program. Assists volunteer coordinator with setup for events.
    • Assesses violations of code and deescalates citizen disputes; coordinates with Dallas County Fire Marshal’s Office and Sheriff’s Department for enforcement of the County Code. Identifies the need for emergency services and requests assistance.
    • Performs routine maintenance tasks, including litter removal, string trimming, and minor repairs to preserve infrastructure. Contacts vendors and coordinators with Open Space Administrator and Road & Bridge for major repairs to preserve infrastructure.
    • Completes reports such as preserve inspection reports, visitation reports, incident reports, and other documentation.
    • Provides first aid and determines need for and request emergency services. May assist first responder agencies.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education, Experience and Training:

    Education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in a job related field of study. One (1) year job related experience.

    Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    Skilled in the use of standard software applications. Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public. Knowledge of safety standards. Must obtain First Aid/CPR Certification within 90 days of hire. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License, with a good driving record and reliable transportation. Will be required to provide a copy of 10-year driving history. Must maintain a good driving record and remain in compliance with Article II, Subdivision II of Chapter 90 of the Dallas County Code. May be subject to work weekends.

    Physical/Environmental Requirements:

    Must be able to work in varying conditions, surroundings and weather conditions. Requires prolonged kneeling, standing, walking, twisting, climbing and the ability to lift and carry in excess of 50 lbs., assisted.
