    Description

    The City of Bellevue is currently seeking a Recreation Program Technician for the Bellevue Family, Youth & Teens Program, who enjoys interactions with patrons of all ages and diverse backgrounds; prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of their work; is flexible-minded; has intermediate to advanced computer systems skills; is detail oriented with high organization ability; and who is comfortable with a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends. The position will require a ‘self-starter’ person with strong communication and community/public relation skills including strong youth leadership and community service program development experience preferred.

    The Family, Youth, and Teens Division includes Wrap-Around Services and the Youth Link Program. Wrap–Around Services is a collaborative project of the City of Bellevue and the Bellevue School District, promoting healthy families and a healthy community through a single access point at Bellevue public schools. Youth Link is a City of Bellevue youth empowerment program operated in partnership with Bellevue Public Schools, giving teens an active voice in the community and an opportunity to make things happen.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provides Administrative, Program, and Special Event Support
    • Provides customer service and outreach support.
    • Assistant lead at program meetings and special events responsible for coordinating logistics under the direction of the Youth Link Program Coordinator.
    • Acts as a problem identification and resolution resource, answering questions, providing guidance, troubleshooting and following up with customers in resolving problems; may coordinate (or act as a liaison) between functions/departments as required to facilitate problem resolution.
    • Open to a flexible work schedule to meet program needs including evening and possibly weekend shifts.
    • Assists with event planning, execution, set-up, operation, and take down.

    Anticipated Work Schedule: (28 hours/week); 1 hr break

    • Monday 9:00 am – 5 pm (7)
    • Tuesday 9:00 am – 5 pm (7)
    • Wednesday 12:00 pm – 8 pm (7)
    • Thursday 9:00 am – 5 pm (7)

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • A demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning of diversity, equity & inclusion and commitment to implement these principles in your work.
    • Must be an effective communicator and able to handle pressure from challenging situations.
    • Important to understand the need of good customer service and that, as a public agency, the residents are our customers.
    • Ability to work cohesively internally and externally with staff and community members.
    • An ability to operate some or all of the following office machines/equipment: PC/printer and multifunction copy/scan/fax machine.
    • Proficiency at an intermediate to advance level on application software and/or an ability to quickly learn new software: Windows, Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Civic-Rec registration system, JDE, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.
    • Candidates who are bilingual in Spanish preferred, as more than 30% of the student population speak Spanish as a first language in school sites where increased outreach is being conducted.

    Education and Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent and four years of progressively responsible related work experience or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
    • Strong youth leadership and community service program development experience (preferred)
    • Must pass a criminal background check prior to hire.

    • Must have valid driver’s license to conduct outreach and program activities at schools and various community locations including operating City passenger vehicles as needed.

    Definition of a Variable Employee:

    • Average weekly hours cannot be determined at date of hire.
    • Hours may vary from week to week and are anticipated to be 28 hours per week or less.
