    The Palestinian Media and Journalism Internship in Palestine

    The Palestinian Media and Journalism Internship (1-12 weeks) is a great opportunity for individuals who are interested in media or whose work relates to media and who want to gain experience working with media in Palestine. You will have the opportunity to visit local radio stations and understand the challenges Palestinian media outlets face due to the occupation.

    The Palestinian Media and Journalism Internship will give you the chance to learn Arabic and tour a number of historic and cultural sites in the city of Hebron. Through the program, you will have the chance to produce a short film about Palestine. Each day, you’ll be visiting to several media stations in Hebron to learn about Palestinian media, constraints to media production, and how the occupation inhibits freedom of speech in media.

    The Palestinian Media Internship in Palestine Aspects

    This program focuses on two main aspects: Theoretical-Practical & Linguistic-Social :

    Theoretical & Practical

    • This Media and Journalism in Palestine Program includes field visits through a guide who speaks English to local radio stations and institutions working in the media and press sector.
    • It also includes meeting with Palestinian journalists in order to discuss the media issues faced by the journalists in Hebron, as well as the main challenges facing the media sector due to obstacles imposed by the current political situation, such as the Israeli occupation.
    • These field trips will address topics such as the history of media in Palestine, types of media platforms, figures and statistics, media as a specialization in Palestine, freedom of Expression in Palestine, and the coverage of the Palestinian -Israeli conflict.
    • The program includes day trips to visit refugee camps in Hebron and Bethlehem, where participants will learn about the daily challenges faced by Palestinian refugees and their communities

    Linguistic & Social

    • The Media and Journalism in Palestine Program include learning Arabic. The center provides the participant with weekly language classes and a real opportunity to practice the language with its native speakers during your stay in Palestine.
    • The program will provide you with the opportunity to participate in the social, educational, and cultural activities organized by the center that is aimed at targeting the Palestinian community in Hebron including teaching individual or group English classes. These activities especially target children & youth with an aim to develop their skills in various educational and social fields.

    Benefits of the Media and Journalism in Palestine Program

    • You will meet with Palestinian journalists to dialogue about media issues in Palestine and ask them any questions you may have.
    • You will have the opportunity to visit local radio stations and learn how they announce urgent news while navigating the complexities of Israeli censorship and harassment.
    • You may have the opportunity to create a short film about Palestine (optional). Films are expected to be a minimum of three minutes long.
    • The staff will assist you in making the video and with the Montag as well. The Palestinian center provides film equipment including cameras, microphones, and stands, but you are welcome to bring your own equipment as well.
    • Opportunities to organize workshops or trainings on a topic related to the program or training dealing with various other skills, such as academic writing, writing a biography, drawing, first aid, theater, music, or other skills that you wish to teach the Palestinian community;
    • The participant will engage in the Palestinian community, culture, and daily life.
    • Participants will be visiting city historical sites.
    • Day Trips to refugee camps in Hebron & Bethlehem and some areas of political importance.
    • All participants will receive 3 hours of Arabic language lessons per week.
    • Accommodation is provided for the length of the program, either residing with a Palestinian host family or at our 8th-floor apartment. Private accommodation is also available with extra fees.
