Our mission is to develop, promote, and sponsor trusted, culturally relevant educational forums, trainings, and referral services that support the health and well-being of Black people and vulnerable communities.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide strategic and visionary leadership to the organization, aligning all efforts with BMHA’s mission and long-term goals.
    • Maintain strong and transparent communication with the Board of Directors; deliver timely and accurate reports, recommendations, and strategic insights.
    • Ensure the financial health and sustainability of the organization through sound fiscal management, including annual budgets, quarterly reporting, and compliance oversight.
    • Lead fundraising efforts—including individual giving, institutional partnerships, grant writing, and events—to support programs and growth.
    • Drive the implementation and continuous improvement of BMHA programs and services.
    • Hire, develop, and lead a committed and high-performing staff and vendor team.
    • Cultivate strategic relationships across government agencies, foundations, community partners, and stakeholders to enhance BMHA’s reach and reputation.
    • Champion the mission by serving as the public face of the organization, representing BMHA in media and at community events.

    Key Qualifications

    • Proven experience serving as the Executive Director (or equivalent leadership role) of a small nonprofit organization, with responsibility for strategy, operations, and fundraising.
    • Strong operational background with expertise in budget development, financial management, and organizational systems.
    • Demonstrated success in leading and motivating teams, developing high-performance cultures, and managing day-to-day operations.
    • Experience designing and executing fundraising strategies, including cultivating donors, securing grants, and building long-term partnerships.
    • Deep commitment to BMHA’s mission, values, and the communities we serve.
    • Excellent communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills; ability to inspire and influence diverse audiences.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MS, MA, MBA, PhD, PsyD, EdD, JD) preferred.
    • At least 10 years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit management.
    • Strong experience in community engagement, advocacy, and working across diverse cultural groups.
    • A broad and accessible network of partners, collaborators, and funders.
    • Experience as a trainer or group facilitator is a plus.
