    Join us in leading a beloved community family camp as we celebrate 100 years of connecting Oakland families and youth to the wonders of the Plumas National Forest in Quincy, CA. With an annual budget of $1.8 million and a skilled year-round team, OFRC is committed to delivering exceptional overnight outdoor experiences for families and youth. OFRC has strong enrollment (nearly all sessions had waitlists last summer) and a robust campership and outreach programs with non-financial supports such as a gear-lending library and transportation assistance.

    We're searching for a passionate and experienced camp leader who excels at building relationships and can strategically advance our mission of serving youth, promoting environmental stewardship, and honoring cultural diversity.

    Salary: $100,000 - $130,000

    Benefits: Generous paid time off, 100% health insurance coverage, 401k, cell phone bill payment, four-day work week October - April, meals & housing during camp months

    Location and Housing: Camp runs May - September each year, and the ED is expected to spend significant time onsite. Private, pet-friendly housing is available when onsite. During October - April, the ED will spend significant time in Oakland for partnership development. Housing not provided in Oakland.

    Responsibilities

    1. Strategy and leadership
      • Establish a visionary direction for the organization that aligns with OFRC's mission, enabling far-reaching access to OFRC programming for the diverse Oakland community.
      • Recruit, lead, coach, develop, and retain the current 4-person year-round senior management team and seasonal staff of 50.
      • Foster a climate of excellence, safety, inclusivity, ethics, accountability, and respect among staff.
      • Monitor industry trends and identify opportunities for innovation and accessibility in achieving the organization's mission.
    2. Programs and Operations Management
      • Collaborate with the Camp Director to develop, execute, refine, and measure programmatic activities, ensuring excellence and maximizing mission impact.
      • Work with key staff to ensure consistent quality of finance and administration, operational systems, and facilities management; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals.
      • Ensure compliance with all relevant and applicable nonprofit, workplace, and employment laws and regulations.
    3. Fundraising and Financial Management
      • Collaborate with the Development & Marketing Director to develop and nurture positive relationships with and secure financial support from individual donors, foundations, government agencies, elected officials, and corporations through active engagement, cultivation, and stewardship.
      • Collaborate with staff, contractors, the Finance Committee, and the Board of Directors to prepare budgets, track progress, monitor and manage cash flow, and implement operational or budgetary changes as needed.
      • Maintain transparent and accurate accounting and financial controls, ensuring adherence to sound financial practices.
    4. Communications & External Relations
      • Represent the organization and act as an effective spokesperson to constituencies, including clients/members/patrons, other nonprofits, government agencies, elected officials, funders, and the general public.
      • Participate in external events and serve as the face of the organization to increase visibility, credibility, and market brand, and develop strategic partnerships to further increase community awareness and expand programs.
      • Actively engage and energize OFRC volunteers, board members, event committees, alumni, partnering organizations, and funders to support OFRC.
      • Maintain positive working relationships with the City of Oakland, U.S. Forest Service, local nonprofits, and community groups to further OFRC’s mission.
    5. Board Relations
      • Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; serve as ex-officio of each committee; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction.
      • Work with the board and management staff to develop strategies for achieving mission goals and financial viability.

    Qualifications (Minimum Qualifications and Past Experience)

    Required

    • 7+ years of leadership experience, including people management, in nonprofit or related organizations.
    • Demonstrable ability to manage complex projects from start to finish.
    • Previous experience and successes in major donor and institutional fundraising and strategic planning.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, advocacy, and partnership development skills.
    • Commitment to sustainability, diversity, and community-centric practices.

    Preferred

    • Leadership and management experience in camping, hospitality, education, or other related industries.
    • Complex risk management experience, including preparedness for natural disasters.

    Work Environment & Physical Aspects of the Position:

    • Must be able to routinely perform the following physical activities: climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for extended periods of time, walk, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity to perform detailed tasks.
    • Daily exposure to the sun, heat, and natural environment.
    • Must have or be willing to obtain a valid CA driver’s license, and operate vehicles.
