LGBT/BIPOC Affirming LMSW Therapist

Welcome to NYC Affirmative Psychotherapy!

We are a remote-only practice based in Manhattan, looking for full-time NY state LMSW therapists to earn their clinical hours and grow into well-rounded, trauma-informed clinicians.

For the past eight years, our remote group psychotherapy practice has provided individual, couples, and group psychotherapy to adults ages 18 and up in NY and NJ. By offering a sliding scale and participating in several insurance networks, we demonstrate our commitment to providing quality, long-term psychotherapy to our patients and the work of social justice. At NYCAP we believe that change is possible and that we as human beings grow in relationships where an empathic and attuned other bears witness to our struggles. We recognize the innate strengths that continue to allow people to function while enduring difficult life circumstances. We know the courage it takes to embark upon this healing process, and we are looking for a dedicated social worker who understands this to join our team.

At NYC Affirmative you will build a full caseload of up to 29 patients providing weekly psychotherapy to adults 18+. You’ll work under the supervision of experienced LCSWs who are a part of the same communities we serve. And you’ll be a part of a dedicated group of therapists who believe in our mission to provide affordable, long-term care to our patients.

The position we are looking to fill has two schedule options.

Tuesday - Saturday (10am-6pm)

Monday-Friday (M, T, W 12-8pm, R, F 10-6pm)

Ideal candidates will be:

• Recently licensed in NY state LMSW looking to earn their clinical hours under supervision
• Experience providing individual psychotherapy to adults
• Committed to working with and supporting BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities
• Looking for full-time work and interested in delivering long-term clinical work and building professional relationships
• Experienced working with transgender and non-binary folx
• Understanding of the intersectionality of identities and the importance of anti-racist work
• Demonstrating strong administrative skills in writing progress notes, maintaining an accurate appointment calendar, and discussing and billing patients for services
• Willing to learn from clinical supervisors, open to feedback, and work on the growing edge of their clinical skills

Position responsibilities include:

• Provide 45-minute psychotherapy sessions to a weekly caseload of up to 29 patients
• Maintain an accurate appointment calendar
• Keep contemporaneous notes
• Diagnose clients using the DSM V
• Charge clients daily
• Attend weekly individual supervision, and after successfully passing 3 month probation period, also attend weekly group supervision.
• Being responsive to emails from clients, supervisors, and administrative staff
• Optional attendance at in-house trainings that offer continuing education by New York State for professional development

The Staff Therapist position is a fee-for-service W2 position at $45 per session, paid bi-weekly. The schedule includes blocked-off time for administrative work, lunches, and supervision. After three months, employees have the opportunity to transition to a full-time salaried position with full benefits including PTO, 401k, employee-sponsored medical/dental/vision insurance and more.
