Everything the Idealist Community Accomplished on Idealist Day 5/5
We’re celebrating all the positive action happening around the world as part of Idealist Days—thank you for being part of it. Because of you, this movement continues to grow in every direction and reminds us moving from intention to action is easier with a community of support.
Here’s everything you accomplished on Idealist Days 5/5 this year!
Ami Dar and the Idealist community from New York started Idealist Day 5/5 with a sunrise walk across the Brooklyn Bridge with over 80 other New Yorkers. 🏙️
D. from Salaam, Tanzania organized a community session focused on ending child marriage and supporting students facing academic challenges. Alongside conversations with teachers and students, participants shared refreshments and encouraged one another to keep education at the center of community change. 📚✨
Warren W. from Greer, South Carolina shared that relationships formed during the previous Idealist Day 4/4 gathering are already leading to future collaborations. What began as a small social meetup of six people continues to inspire new partnerships and possibilities for collective action. 🤝
“It turned out that all the attendees were mutual connections of someone else who attended! We found out we are all like-minded individuals, and that we are all aware of some issues going on in the world,” Warren said.
Jet P. from Denver, CO organized an outdoor gathering with neighbors to continue fostering local connections.
Donna A. and Diane P. from Mount Pleasant, New York came together over breakfast to celebrate connection and kindness in their community. ☕🥐
Neera D. and Paulette from Fairfax County, Virginia hosted an online lunch conversation about how communities can more meaningfully support neighbors experiencing homelessness. 🏘️💚
Alex M. and Lisa A. from Richmond, Virginia participated in a litter cleanup organized by Southside ReLeaf to create a cleaner and more welcoming environment for residents living within walking distance of the park. 🌱
Solomon B. from Kaduna, Nigeria organized a meet-up focused on connection, care, and encouragement for young children in an orphanage. 💛
“The arrangements went well! We made donations, and our community members passionately showed up. I was a bit surprised that Meenah traveled about 240 km from a neighboring city, Kano, to attend our event,” Solomon said.
Sarah A. and Mr. Adeyemi from Ogun State, Nigeria hosted an educational technology and career development session for young participants. 💻
Melinda K. from St. Joseph, Missouri met with her local Idealist Days group to brainstorm information to share through their zine. 📰
Joseph Y. from Ghana organized a virtual meeting and later visited Amazone Cocoa Seedlings Farm to connect with cocoa farmer Ofori and his team. Participants listened to the challenges faced in nursery farming while offering encouragement and solidarity. 🍫
Cosmas N. in Gweru, Zimbabwe organized an initiative to provide food for children living on the streets. 🍲
Andrea H. and Paula B. from Minnesota brought their community to gather, brainstorm positive actions, and eat cake! 🍰
Katie J. from Connecticut hosted a virtual meetup where participants reflected on their actions for the day and began planning future gatherings for Idealist Days. ✨
The Nonprofit Hive organized a virtual meet-up with social-impact professionals to build community with one another. 👩🏻💻
“We are really excited to continue finding new volunteer opportunities around the state that we can participate in. We have made some new connections and are excited to continue working,” Katie said.

- Start small by gathering friends, co-workers, or family members to talk about how you can make a positive impact in your local community once a month on Idealist Days.
- Browse local volunteer opportunities to join an existing positive action.
- As you grow, post your event on Idealist’s Global Calendar via Luma to invite others in your area to join you for projects.
- Submit your photos and reflections to actions@idealist.org.
I oversee the content and resources we share at Idealist to help organizations, prospective grad students, and job seekers make an impact in their personal and professional lives. In my spare time, I love to read, cook, and explore NYC's parks.
