Way - to - Win

Way to Win was founded by Tory Gavito, Jenifer Fernandez Ancona, and Leah Hunt-Hendrix, PhD, determined to correct the mistakes of the 2016 election by focusing on the leaders, strategies, and tactics we knew to be the way to win. The old ways of political investment and engagement had failed; it was time for a new approach. 

In 2017, Way to Win was officially formed with a commitment  to disrupt politics as usual, invest year-round, move money quickly, and work with a squad of funders to ensure that our movement partners have what they need.

Since then, Way to Win has built a team and community of donors, organizers, and leaders focused on taking the risks needed to gain momentum and opportunities for 2021 and beyond. Through our theory of change, we have accumulated wins across the country regardless of party leadership — creating a new way to win.

We moved over $110 million during the 2019-2020 election cycle, and 85% of that funding went directly into state programs. The money moved in 2019 laid the groundwork for historic wins in 2020 where Arizona and Georgia flipped blue thanks to long-term investment and organizing. 

The organizations we fund expand the electorate through voter registration, issue advocacy, and organizing to include new and low- to mid-propensity voters. They move those voters to the polls by inspiring them to believe their votes are powerful, and that they deserve leaders who reflect them and who will deliver policy change in their lives. Neither they nor we treat one election as an end unto itself; instead, we use it as a longer-term catalyst to build progressive power.
