Children's Literacy Project

  • Sobre Nós

Children’s Literacy Project improves the literacy skills of children from low-income households by training and supporting volunteer tutors who provide free, long-term, one-to-one instruction using research-based methodology. We envision a community where all children can read, write, and spell - essential building blocks for future academic success - thereby improving a wide range of health and social outcomes among a population regarded as vulnerable and at-risk. Children’s Literacy Project predominantly serves elementary school-aged children: 45% Black, 40% Latinx, 10% white, 3% two or more races, and 2% Asian. 75% identify as boys; 25% as girls. All of our students come from low-income households (100% are from families living below federal poverty guidelines) and are behind grade level in reading.
