    Maitri is a free, confidential, nonprofit organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area, that helps domestic violence survivors, primarily from the South Asian community with culturally responsive services. Maitri believes that the best human relationships are characterized by mutual respect, open communication, and individual empowerment. To that end, Maitri’s activities are designed to help survivors make an informed choice of the lives they lead. Maitri's values include being client-centric and espouses compassion, trust and integrity, human dignity and respect, gender equity, and empowerment. Maitri also has a long term focus to prevent domestic violence in the community through change of social norms and attitudes around issues of gender equity and gender abuse to foster healthy relationships and allow for every individual to live with dignity and respect.
