Sitka Center for Art and Ecology

  • Sobre Nós

The Sitka Center for Art and Ecology is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping others discover and develop their core creative selves. We provide a nurturing environment for people who make art and enjoy discovering their connections to nature and seek to expand the relationships between art, nature and humanity.

    • Our Workshop Program provides people of all levels the transformative and joyful experience of making art and exploring their connections to nature. From May to October, Sitka offers over 100 workshops for more than 1000 participants, who range from first-time students to professionals. Our instructors, both locally and internationally based, are experts in their fields. All workshops acknowledge the connection between nature and creativity; some focus specifically on Sitka’s local ecology.
    • Our Residency Program offers artists, writers, scientists, and musicians the time and space to dig deep into their work. From October to May, six people at a time (approximately 24 people annually) are selected through an application process to come live and work on our campus for up to three and a half months. This is often a life-changing experience for the participants.
    • Our Place inspires the people who spend time with us. Cascade Head rises above as the Salmon River flows into the Pacific Ocean below, and enormous Sitka spruce trees shelter both the campus and our resident elk herd, which often grazes nearby. The singularity of this place has a profound influence on the participants in our programs.
    • Our Community provides an intellectual sounding board for ideas and discoveries. We offer salon discussions, musical performances, author readings, art gatherings, and scholarship funding for high school artists. We are a vibrant contributor to our local community.
